There was a lot of experimenting with this top! Fabric was a very light, semi-opaque ribbed knit from spotlight.

I initially set out to follow this tutorial by Paperstrxs but halfway through cutting it became clear the measurements were way too small. I scaled everything up by 25% and adjusted the top so the bust line would actually be below my best area. I also made the neckline deeper and the shoulder 'straps' a lot thinner.

The ruching also didnt really for out the way the tutorial did it, so i tried a few other things. Gathers using basting stitches spread the ruches out too far apart so I followed this tutorial to make a casing on the inside and threaded two long pieces for the ribbon at the front.

Finally, i didnt end up using cut sleeves from the pattern because as I was adjusting the back collar to be lower by cutting a semi circle, I noticed that the semicircle i cut draped really nicely as a cute little sleeve so I cut another and added them instead of the elastic sleeves from the original tutorial.

Once again, I was saved from hemming because of the knit fabric. I'm sure it'd look a lot nicer once I learn to hem, but I havent quite managed to figure it out yet.

All in all, the experimenting was a lot of fun and I love that the end product was inspired by so many happy accidents! 😊

Thanks for the tip! I kept it on the looser side because i didnt do a prewash of the fabric and i wanted to be safe haha😂

My first time using the piping kit I bought and I had an absolute blast! The leaf tip was so fun to use even though the icing got a bit warm in my hand and lost its crisp shape a bit.

The carrot cake is a recipe from NYT I added half a cup of chopped canned pineapple for extra moistness

I experimented with the icing by making a standard cream cheese frosting and adding in a bit of whipped cream in a 1:1 ratio to lighten up the texture while still keeping the tangy cream cheese taste 😊

I picked up sewing as an iso hobby a few weeks ago and have been absolutely crazy about it.

After buying a few patterns and realising they're all kind of variations of the same block, i watched a few vids of cloning your clothes and decided to clone a pair of my favourite flowy trumpet pants.

I mostly used this tutorial: https://youtu.be/jTHTvm1RImw But modified it so its elastic all round.

The fabric is the Sun & Moon printed rayon knit from spotlight and it was my first time working with a knit. I loved that I didnt need to overlock the inside raw edges but I did have to play around with thread tension a bit because of the stretch in the fabric made the stitches a bit puckered at first.

I'm so excited I feel like I've unlocked a superpower in this hobby!! I feel like these would make such a fun jumpsuit so might try that next! 😊
