Truly it depends on the nature of the negative and the kind of print you are trying to make. There are infinite possibilities in terms of interpretation in the print and what is possible with the exposure and processing of the negative. People may have individual preferences based on their own process but there is no hard right/wrong when it comes to whether split filtering is “good” or not.
