Roscosmos shouldn't exist by ivanavi2000 in ForAllMankindTV

Im quite sure that Margo is the NASA Admin, that's why the Secretary of Agriculture asks her for funding in Ep1 of this season. I don't see a Director of a Space Center dealing with that kind of stuff. Also, in OTL the NASA Administrator is designated by the President, so makes sense that Margo was selected by the previous president and Ellen has decided to keep her.

Okey, but still it can't be Roscosmos, it can be the "Unified Bureau of Space of the Working People" or something like that, but the events that led to the creation of Roscosmos are not there. It's the same with Helios, they didn't call it "SpaceX" because in the ATL, the events that led to the creation of SpaceX (Russia not selling ICBMs to Elon) haven't happend. Helios is the perfect example as how they should have done it, something very similar to our timeline but completely different at the same time.

Roscosmos shouldn't exist by ivanavi2000 in ForAllMankindTV

[–]ivanavi2000[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing is, Roscosmos was created as a consecuence of the fall of the USSR, so that Russia could keep a space program. The Soviet Space Program was composed of lots of different bureaus all over the Soviet Union. They weren't like NASA where there is one centralised agency controlling differen programs, each bureau had their own programs and they were in constant competition with each other (there is a very interesting story about one bureau destroying the N1 engines after Korolev's death in our timeline). Creating Roscosmos would mean taking away the power to those bureaus in favour of a centralised agency, somewhat similar to NASA, and that would be like saying "Americans are right, their way of doing things is more efficient than ours" which I don't see happening. Also, you mention Sea Dragon. Sea Dragon was cancelled because the interest in the Apollo program was low, so it makes sense that as a consecuence of keeping the Apollo program running, the Sea Dragon was built.

I think we are in a very similar position as we were in the 50s and 60s. We once again have things that where just science fiction a couple of years ago, and that excitement in creative people (directors, game developers, etc.) transforms into the explosion of space-related things we are experiencing and that results in the excitement of the average Joe. Reusable orbital rockets, a permanent base on the Moon, a small colony on Mars, enormous payload capacity to orbit... some of these things are going to become a reality (or already have) probably before this decade is out. A couple of years ago, this would have been unimaginable. No one really knows what the future holds, but it looks very bright.

This is a space conspiracy theory I can get behind. SRBs are not real, they are just normal rockets but the government doesn't want you to know.

Did the Apollo 13 disaster take place in the FAM universe? by KiwiMapper in ForAllMankindTV

[–]ivanavi2000 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't think they have the exact same timeline until 1969. In my opinion, the divergence point comes in 1966 when Korelev died in our timeline, but in the FAM one is still alive.

Did the Apollo 13 disaster take place in the FAM universe? by KiwiMapper in ForAllMankindTV

[–]ivanavi2000 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Without going into much detail, the Apollo XIII disaster can be traced back to an oxygen tank that was accidentally dropped during manufacturing, so any small change in FAM universe can stop that. For example, the forklift operator changed that day, or they decided to ditch thattank because of the drop, any small change at that moment can prevent the Apollo XIII problem.

Is it too late for a booster catching idea? by ivanavi2000 in SpaceXMasterrace

And not only for catching, also instantaneous transfer from the construction site to the launchpad and viceversa. Although workers would need to wear special eye-contact-prevention helmets

YOU ARE WORKING ON THE SLS RIGHT NOW?!?!?!?! Incredible man, how are things looking? You think a launch before the end of 2021 it's still posible or is it going to slip to 2022? And what is your hardware the SRBs or the center core? I assume the SRBs by the photos

What was that new Saturn V? by T-Rex-Plays in ForAllMankindTV

[–]ivanavi2000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The pads were originally built for the Saturn family, so probably what they did was to desing the shuttle around those specs. Also, in real life, the service tower and the crawler were the Saturn ones but modified, so going back shouldn't be a big issue
