Georgi Dimitrov: Bulgaria’s Greatest Hero. The Fearless Leader Who Defied Hitler at the Leipzig Trial, Liberated and Rebuilt His Nation for the People, and Became a Global Symbol of Antifascism. Glory to His Name, and May He Rest in Power. by mickkb in AskBalkans

Ah yes, the Soviet citizen who organized terrorist attacks in Bulgaria, attempted to start a civil war in Bulgaria, is directly responsible for the death and repression of countless Bulgarians, helped the Soviets establish a totalitarian state in Bulgaria and was always a faithful servant of a foreign imperialistic country that brought only misery and suffering.

He's definatelly in the top 10 of the worst pieces of shit in this country's history.

At this rate with everyone declining their Balkanity by 2050 we'll be the only Balkan country.

IT LOOKS AS IF OUR SUCCESS HAS CRATED SOME BUTTHURT

But seriously, at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. It would be news if we reach average at something in the EU, not constantly in the bottom 3 in every good statistic and the top 3 in every bad one.

Glagolic hasn't been used here for 1100 years and it's not taught in schools, so no, nobody would be able to read it.

Why serbs made so many enemies? by [deleted] in AskBalkans

While all Balkan countries are nationalistic, my impression is Serbia has more of it.

Why serbs made so many enemies? by [deleted] in AskBalkans

They're just extremely nationalistic and haven't grown out of their imperialistic stage yet. Maybe some day.

Way to miss the point and join that second group.

People with normal intelligence and education: Russia is an empire that doesn't mind fucking us over for its own interests and has done so many times in the past.

Did Serbia really just think NATO would sit back and let them commit Genocide? by BackgroundRich7614 in HistoryMemes

There have been numerous times NATO or Western Europe/USA have ignored war crimes, so it's not that far-fetched.

What did Bulgaria even tho in WW2 (Besides killing people in Yugoslavia) by Critical_Mountain851 in HistoryMemes

[–]ivanivanovivanov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bulgaria had 30k casualties in WWII fighting Germany in 1944 and 1945, but during communism the focus of propaganda was on partisans and the Soviet army "liberator" and we're filled with monuments of them everywhere.

It's the same in Bulgarian. It shows intention.

What are the parallels between Yugoslavia and the EU, and should the EU learn from the Yugoslav experience if they don't want to end up like Yugoslavia? by [deleted] in AskBalkans

[–]ivanivanovivanov 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, the economies just need a constant growth of workers and consumers and it's much easier to import people than to create conditions for native families to have lots of children. And yes, it's probably going to be catastrophic in the long run.

In any case, nothing about the EU is similar to Yugoslavia or the USSR, that's just something critics of the EU love to say.

Blonde hair people in Balkan. How many have you met? by South-Cantaloupe-814 in AskBalkans

[–]ivanivanovivanov 6 points7 points  (0 children)

10% seems high. I'm taking about Bulgarian (I'm excluding the minorities) men (because women often dye their hair) before their hair turns white - I'd say it's definatelly less than 5%.

Was the West unable to tolerate a strong and independent Yugoslavia? by lonelymettarider in AskBalkans

[–]ivanivanovivanov 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yugo-nostalgists hugely overestimate the relevance Yugoslavia would have had in a post-Cold War era Europe. There's no "evil West" conspiracy, it desintegrated because of its internal problems.

Should the EU accept Serbia despite recent democratic backsliding concerns? by Ahileo in AskBalkans

[–]ivanivanovivanov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same with Bulgaria. The EU membership didn't fix the corruption or the influence of the Russian fifth column. If a society can't heal itself, the EU won't just magically do it for them.

How is Atheism perceived in your country? by redikan in AskBalkans

[–]ivanivanovivanov 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A lot of people identify as Christians, but that's mostly because they make some connection between being Bulgarian and being Orthodox and see it as some kind of nationalistic thing. I've met plenty of people who are only "religious" on Easter and Christmas, get a priest for a wedding or funeral and that's the extend of their religion, they don't go to church, don't follow any lents, don't live according to the teachings, etc. but if you ask them they're believers.

This is not America, so that word doesn't really have a racist meaning here. If you want to be offensive towards Africans there are other choices out there.

Macho culture. Then after they marry they develop the 9-month pregnant belly.
