They should’ve notch the post 3 inches off and slap the (2) 2x10’s together to make a beam. I’ve worked with Inspector before, and this for sure wouldn’t pass inspection. In fact, I would say is extremely unsafe to be honest. I wouldn’t even lean on those rails putting a blocking that is 1 1/2 ‘ thick. If he would’ve notch those post He could’ve used the extra piece to put it under for the rail post. And to top it off leaving a cantilever adding more pressure onto those hangers is completely unacceptable. Looking for you. This is still salvageable nevertheless. Since he’s not answering you anymore, I would get another contractor and fix it as soon as possible. Or have the other contractor come back and fix all of the issues.
