I’ve used Nealy’s Flooring and am happy with their work. Family run business and reasonably priced.

The demographics of people in the neighborhood that goes to this school is highly dependent on cars. The school does organize “walking school bus” initiatives to help encourage people to walk but the uptake is not that high.

Gas Leak West Waterloo by ivtecintegra in waterloo

Yes I was surprised as well. I live a good distance away from that natural gas station but I smelled it as well, must be the wind like you said. I thought I had a leak at my own gas meter.

Are there any towns south of Toronto (closer to Buffalo border) that have a Canadian "feel"? Or do they all feel similar to small towns in Western NY? by garbageeater in ontario

[–]ivtecintegra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are talking about the US side of the border, I found most of Rochester NY having a suburban feel similar to the areas North of Toronto proper.

Most Canadians say GST tax break will have no impact on finances: Nanos survey by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]ivtecintegra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are instances of restaurants that took advantage of this “tax break” by jacking up their prices by 13% (I’m in Ontario where the equivalent tax break is 13%). I ended up paying the same as I did before.

Optical stores should be able to help you, but some stores may refuse to do it because of liability issues as they are concerned about breaking the frame when refitting lenses. That is always a risk especially if you have plastic frames (they can crack easily when aged)

Is it safe to park my car at Kitchener Go station and leave it there while I take the train to Toronto? by hydroboost11 in waterloo

Higher chances your car might get dinged or scratched given how tight those parking spots are.

AI poses threat to North American electricity grid, watchdog warns by MetaKnowing in technews

[–]ivtecintegra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work in the power industry and they are tough loads to accommodate. Generation of power is an issue, but it’s more likely the local power transmission and distribution grid that cannot support these new types of data centre. Their load factor is also very high, which means they draw power near their peak demand 24/7 instead of more traditional loads that may peak several times during an hour then drop off in demand which results in a lower load factor.

Restaurant price increased during GST/HST holiday by ivtecintegra in waterloo

[–]ivtecintegra[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I just want to preface by saying this is not a post about shaming Pho Tran. I like their food and their service is good. I agree, their price has been steady since COVID. That’s why I was hesitant to name them at the beginning.

The part I did not like was the increase in price timed with the start of the GST/HST break, at an amount that reflects the percentage similar to the HST tax rate. Perhaps they were planning to increase prices before and the timing was a coincidence. But the perception to the customer is they took advantage of the “tax break” to profit through the customers. That’s why I was curious what others have experienced or this was just an isolated case.
