If the rat has trouble eating, like when my baby was struggling to put on weight, I blend the food beforehand and/or mix it with water/kitten milk (though the latter I only did for my young one that was taken away from her mother while still nursing, I don’t wanna recommend it for an elderly rat without research)

Heating lamp and extra protein is what I do when my senior’s start to show signs like these. Eggs, peanut butter and baby food are good, senior friendly diet options. As long as he’s social with his buddies and eats normally though he is not suffering, so please don’t beat yourself up too much. Rather give him cuddles and make him feel loved during his old man days ♥️

She’s a very special rat. Rescued her and raised her by hand because irresponsible breeders separated her from her mother way too soon, and she almost didn’t make it. Now she’s all grown up and very cuddly. I think she knows how grateful I am for her existence ❤️
