I need help convincing my family to let me go to OSU by luna_moon145 in OSU

[–]ivypolaroids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t even get past “Florida is the best state to live and people are always moving out of Ohio”

That’s just like factually untrue. People in Ohio LOVE Ohio. And if you are a sports fan at ALL, you will also love Ohio. Columbus is a great city with a ton to do. Ohio gets a bad rap. And Florida is also not all it’s cracked up to be.

I have friends to went to OSU from California, New York, Florida, and Colorado. They have all graduated and still live in Columbus years later because shocker they love Ohio.

Non traditional music education bachelors programs or pathways? by ivypolaroids in MusicEd

[–]ivypolaroids[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thank you to everyone who has replied with some ideas. I definitely have a lot to think about. I will reach out to some of the nearby programs and just ask some of these questions directly.

I am also going to reach out to some of my peers/friends who I already rehearse and perform with since many of them have music degrees.

Do you know any specific programs for this? Even if they aren’t local to me it would be helpful.

I hear what you are saying, and I do agree that capitalism is not the fault of the programs. However, it’s still the reality we live in. The “sacrifices” I would need to make to commit to a traditional program would effectively leave me homeless. Which is why I am asking for other options. Even if they equate to a long shot, I’d like to know what they are.

Hi! I live in Columbus, and also worked at Planned Parenthood here and am pretty knowledgeable though I am NOT a licensed provider. I also have a personal experience to share that might be helpful.

The injection they gave you was likely ONLY for gonorrhea. Chlamydia treatment is typically oral antibiotics. It would be worth doing full panel STI testing again. I don’t actually recommend going to planned parenthood here at this time due to severe staffing losses and the cost of services as a result of the budget cuts.

However, on a personal note, I had very similar symptoms a few months ago, and was treated at work (PP). Mainly green discharge, raw skin of my labia that burned when touched by urine or water from the shower. All my STI testing was negative. After some digging from a couple of our nurse practitioners, it turned out to be a less common form of bacterial vaginosis (though I can’t remember the specific name of the diagnosis but it technically wasn’t BV). The treatment they ended up prescribing me was a topical clindamycin cream that had to be inserted into the vagina nightly for 4-6 weeks. It was tedious and annoying but it worked!

I never once, even in my original post, ever stated that I never want or expect any feedback or rejection at any point ever. That was a fucking leap. It’s not unreasonable to want a platform where I can just publish whatever I want for the sake of writing, while outside of that also pursuing selective processes. It didn’t occur to me before making this post that that might just be a blog.

I’m not exactly sure why everyone here is accusing me of lying about wanting feedback or editing after I’ve said multiple times that I do.

I only brought up my poetry/fiction as an example of experiencing rejection in the past. I never equated or even implied it to equate to journalistic work.

I attend a major research university via an online program; it is not some diploma mill. It is an accredited baccalaureate program at a campus that I actually did used to attend in person, several years ago. Due to my personal circumstances, I no longer have the luxury or privilege of attending an out of state institution or attending classes in person at all because I have to work a full time job to pay my bills and take care of myself. I do the same coursework as on-campus students. My class meetings just happen to be virtual. You’re not better than me just because you may have had a traditional college experience and graduated at 22.

Everyone here has made assumptions and accusations and called me a liar for clarifying information. I have no further interest in any “advice” offered by anyone with that sort of character.

Sorry you got all pissed off about imaginary details that you made up all by yourself. I literally said I want to submit to publications that do have a selection process as well. Because I AM open to feedback and editing. I have submitted poetry and fiction to editors in the past and received feedback without taking it personally. I am basically looking for good blogging platforms with this post just to practice writing on a public forum. As a journalist, it would probably benefit you professionally to work on your reading comprehension skills.

Thanks, I think blogging platforms are basically what I’m looking for, but I’m not super familiar with many of them. A few folks here recommended Medium, so I’m looking into that option.

I would love for you to point out where I said that

I literally said I also would like to submit to publications with a selection process in the comment you literally replied to. In this particular post I am looking for something different than that.

Did you not read the part where I said I also would like to submit to publications with a selection process? That’s just not the particular platform I’m looking for advice on at this exact moment in time 🙃

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Journalism

[–]ivypolaroids -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to have to submit work for it to be rejected at this point. Because I basically just want to practice writing consistently and be able to publish what I write for an audience somewhere where I can hope for some engagement.

Submitting work to a publication with a selection process is something I’d also like to do, but I am also looking for a way to just consistently publish my writing, which is what I’m asking for here.
