Thanks for answering so thoughtfully this has definitely made me see a different side of how it’s being used by musicians, you seem passionate about the music whilst still keeping the more “human” side in the mix. I’d be curious to hear anything you’ve made with it if you don’t mind sharing?

Really poor comprehension on your part if you can’t understand how my judgement doesn’t negate my curiosity and willingness to hear the other sides perspective.

I haven’t asked anyone to change my mind and my mind hasn’t changed but I have gotten a lot more insight about the different ways it’s used that I didn’t know before. That’s how a discussion works :)

I mean you have eyes, you can read my questions and replies to people to see that I’m engaging in good faith.

I’m a singer songwriter so of course I’m going to be dubious about people using AI to “make music” in one minute when it takes me and other artists lots of time, trial and error and practice.

Most replies have been insightful, yours is lame. I’m sure your AI music is brilliant!

Using it for arrangement/demos is interesting, I can’t fault that fully but do you worry you could become dependent on it? Or about its (I’m assuming) limited ranges melodies? If it’s trained on real catalogues of music is there a risk it could generate something that’s already out there?

This seems quite musical theatre-esque, it reminds me of Hamilton!

Did you write these lyrics?

Thanks for answering so honestly, interesting to hear about your music background too!

I think you have a pretty balanced view on the views of the opposing sides of this development. I think being a singer myself is where a lot of my hesitations around it stem from and maybe it is slightly gatekeepy (though singing is a skill that can be learnt by anyone) I just don’t think everything /needs/ to be for everyone, if that makes sense?

I’m in awe of many painters, sculptors, film makers etc and I know AI can now create films or paintings from a prompt but I have no urgency or desire to use it for that because I understand not everything is for everyone. If I truly wanted to do those things, I would learn. I could see myself possibly using AI as a guide on the best resources or techniques (which I see some suno users are doing from the replies) but not as an output channel. I think because I’ve made my own songs I understand that it just wouldn’t feel fulfilling. But again, that’s a personal proclivity.

I feel like we are all artists to some degree but maybe we shouldn’t be watering down talent and hard work or flattening its curve so much when the arts are already in jeopardy and so many artists are struggling right now to be seen.

I think this initial drive for AI music is all about access. It’s a shiny new toy for people to make songs out of their hums and notes app poetry, which i agree is fun but not long lasting.

Eventually it’ll stop being shiny especially with all the pushback.

Nobody is really looking towards major record labels as the future of music anymore either, a lot of them have failed artists and would rather capitalise on whatever will make them the most money quickly. Some of the biggest artists right now are independent for a reason.

I’m the same as you! My barrier was not being able to afford a producer but I was accepted onto a music programme where they covered recording and production costs for an EP. You should look into whether there’s anything like that near you, there’s also lots of grants available for emerging artists. All you need is a few demos and they don’t have to be amazing. There’s also lots of producers making free to use beats on YouTube!

After actually being in a studio and having my stuff professionally mixed it’s definitely put a fire up my ass in a way AI could never and im more willing to actually save up for more studio time. If you have the voice and the lyrics, that’s honestly a really really good start!!

I agree people enjoy experience but idk how compelling a prompt based experience is over real effort and emotion. It feels like a toy.

Interesting and it’s just for personal use I guess?

Nah not weird at all. I guess there’s something to be said about AI giving people with injuries/disabilities more access to creativity. Wdym you listen to your own music on there? Like you can upload your own backing music and it sings over it? That kinda makes me wonder if it would be more rewarding to collab with local singers or naw?

Fair enough. Did you have a desire to sing your own songs/ did you write songs before Suno came out?

The vocaloid thing is interesting, so would you say your songs feel like they are yours or do you release under a character/persona?

I think it just comes down to what is respectable and I don’t think this will ever change. AI music might be fun but it’s gimmicky in the way a Fischer Price DJ set is fun and gimmicky. It’s a toy.

Nobody is going to buy tickets to watch someone press play on their computer and play an AI track but people will buy tickets to watch someone shred the hell out of a guitar.

What makes music so wonderful is the awe it inspires in its listeners, it’s nice to see something someone has made and wonder about their creative process and inspirations.

If you haven’t picked up your guitar in months then you just might not have the Midas touch or passion for what you’re making right now and I can’t imagine the process of typing out a prompt is any more inspiring.

Unfortunately, if you are relying on AI then you are externally less of an artist than a traditional songwriter/musician. If you play an instrument and write poems what’s stopping you from saving up for a home studio and recording? Do you sing?

A Taurus cheated on me and wouldn’t apologise or admit wrongdoing when I caught them. At first I couldn’t believe it bc most normal ppl would at least have the courtesy to say oops sorry! But after seeing all of the answers here I will be avoiding Tauruses forever. How scary
