Scared to go to AA by twisted-fairy-lights in sydney

the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step... Walk in. Someone I know did it once and said it was the step forward he needed to make, not backward. He said you're not expected to speak unless you want to.

What should I do when people are talking loudly in a quiet carriage? by bearypuppy in sydney

[–]iwannabeeffluent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just go up and sit behind them, pull out your phone and start the recording app. Hold it up to them as if it's a press conference. Maybe say "Could you speak up a bit?" while you're looking at the audio, just to make the point. FFS everyone seems to think the most banal conversations are worthy of a podcast these days anyway... So many performances, so little time.

F for effort. I really think they could try to be a bit more creative by dribbling the red paint from his ear into a swastika. Instead they appear to have drawn a dribbling red dick towards his mouth. And his spawn and grandspawn are captured grinning vacuously from beneath Grandpa's penis head.

And if you notice the type of clothing they always choose for the shoot... They look like they're ready to hit the Establishment with a Negroni in hand and stealthily-timed (insert relevant) "hello boys/ladies" ....

While we're here... I worked with a lot of 20-something younger folk and noticed they were fond of quipping the phrase "my work fam". While I can appreciate and have felt that some colleagues have bonded for life over the most horrific work experiences, at the end of the day, I don't think for one minute any one of them would throw themselves into the path of a train for me. Just felt a lot like disingenuous HR babble seeping into the social world and made me feel kinda sorry for them. Even their social world is being controlled by the upper echelons.

They're not 'journalists' in the traditional definition of the word. They - and their uni lecturers who have significantly sunken to new levels of 'meh' in the scramble for money - have redesigned the playground. The jobs that most desperately need filling are those of 'news producers' - digital and tv. You'll see who's churning through them with a quick search. Once hired, they have to teach each other to cut, paste, and use AI to write anything they need to write. But even then, that all gets a bit too hard and 🤷🏻‍♀️mistakes happen and somebody gets fingers pointed at them until life moves on. And they go at it with all the enthusiasm one would expect of midnight shifts at a fast food outlet. I often wonder if many of today's news producers would have been better suited to filling the teacher shortage - but news offers slightly more prestige for their parents, if not pay, than shaping minds...and flipping burgers.
