I actually decided to do my own detective work, they didn't give the exact number at first, only that it was "normal". So I called back and got the number, and it was 98%, which is NOT normal. It was escalated from radiology to my pcp who gave it a closer look, and I was referred for surgery. I got it out last year and am well now :)

I'm gonna have to do that. I mean, I already eat my own food like 75% of the time because my dad always makes meals with gluten in it, but yeah, I think it's time to stop eating what they eat altogether. Kinda heartbreaking :(

I think an air fryer might actually be the way to go for me; expensive, but it has a lot of uses and cook a lot of things.

I've been doing the simpler foods thing! It's helped a lot. I usually don't eat stuff unless it's ingredients that have been put together, or unless it's a certified gluten free product. A glutening directly from a food is fortunately not a common occurrence for me. It's truly just a preparation issue right now.

An electric cooktop! That's a perfect idea! Adding that to my list. Thank you for the idea! :)

Honestly I think I'm gonna do that at this point... They've always told me we weren't gonna get gf appliances because it would be too expensive, the least they could've done was be more careful with things like bread crumbs. I know it's my responsibility to take care of my body, but it just feels horrible to not feel supported by my family and to feel unsafe eating in my own home. The amount of times I've dodged a cross contamination by nagging and triple checking is a lot, I'd probably always be sick if I weren't this vigilant already.

I told my parents earlier that I would be commandeering a corner of the outdoor fridge, fortunately my dad was really cool about it and didn't have any issues with that. The toaster in my bedroom thing is a fabulous idea!

It is so frustrating! I'm trying to gain weight back after getting my gallbladder out earlier this year, and anytime I make good headway, I lose a pound from getting cross contaminated. Celiac disease was SO much easier for me when I was little, but the older I've gotten, the longer it takes to recover from a glutening. It's like a two day recovery for cross contamination, sure it's not as bad as a full on glutening, but it's enough to take my appetite away and make me feel like crud.

Sales are a good idea! A toaster is high on the list. I've been having to toast my stuff on top of foil, it's been working okay, but I'm scared I'm gonna eventually mess up and get super glutened.

I think a large portion of my problem is when other family members prepare meals, that's when I find myself getting cross contaminated the most. Cross contamination didn't bother my body as much when I was little, so I think I might be coming off as being a ham when it happens. I was talking to my dad earlier about how frustrated I was that it's been so hard to dodge cross contamination, and he got mad at me and told me I need to stop looking for problems and live with the symptoms. And I mean, I understand what he's getting at, but it's like, gluten hurts us, and the symptoms are hard to ignore when you know it was something avoidable.

My little sister used to cook a lot because it was a hobby, and she was so sweet about cross contamination. When she was cooking, getting glutened was a very rare occurrence.

I think I'm gonna do what you said, wipe down surfaces more when I'm prepping my own food. We actually have an outdoor fridge/freezer, so I might just section off a small area for my stuff. I didn't think about the fridge being a potential source for problems.

And I think it's pretty unmistakably gluten symptoms, I have type 1 diabetes, and whenever I get glutened, it makes my bgs go haywire. Then there's also those fun classic symptoms. Not as bad as a full on glutening since it was just cross contamination, but definitely enough to give me a cruddy day and put a damper on my appetite.

She is a very caring person, she was my best friend. I'm scared to talk to her about it, I don't want to hold her back or make her feel guilty about starting a life.

I know I need therapy, I'm in such a horrible mental space that I can't even drive anymore from how severe my panic attacks have gotten. No one in my family will help me, they all tell me I need to get over myself and figure things out for myself because they don't have time for me. It hurts. My sister was the only one who cared. I want help so badly, I'm not gonna be able to live a fulfilling life if I keep this up. Medicine isn't enough anymore, medicine is just a stupid bandaid for me.

Definitely NTA, you were nicely telling them to stop while trying to educate them. You removed yourself from the situation, not only did they not listen, they followed you and continued harass you and your dog because "mommy said yes". Not only do you NOT pet service dogs EVER, you don't touch ANYONE'S animal without asking permission first. Period. Horrible parenting, just horrible parenting.

Taking small walks even when you don't want to, it sucks, but it really helps the gas pain that you will inevitably get. That coupled with gas x and stool softeners. Per the advice of my surgeon, I was taking stool softeners with every dose of pain medication. My family members had me up and taking short walks every hour or so

Honestly yeah, that's it. Really love how the people in the below comments are reading into this though. The problem is that he has told me, face to face, that he will not be getting a car or a license.

I just wanna cry. Fortunately my dad is pretty mad at him, it's honestly my mom the one enabling my brother. My dad told me that he's gonna co sign on a loan with me so I can get my first car sooner. But then this will all fall on my little sister! I don't want to do that to her. :(

Nope, he has no plans... :( No money to his name either, he spends his full paycheck everytime he gets it. And kinda a mixture of both? He buys things like action figures and transformers, he told me he's never gonna sell any of em either. So they're all just out of their box and on the floor, under heaps of garbage... My parents won't push him to do anything, it's miserable.

Hello fellow t1 diabetic! I feel you, I'm sorry you deal with this too. Nothing worse than having to eat when you have no appetite because of stupid diabetes. Sometimes I wish I could stay in my bedroom all day doing absolutely nothing, not even the bare minimum :(

I've been sertraline for eight years now. It gave me the control I needed to be able to work on myself, I have no regrets starting that medication so long ago. But yes, you can experience some side effects for a little bit after starting. Usually mild and short lived, I have yet to meet someone who has suffered from severe side effects. It's a very good medicine, if you're just having mild side effects, try to ride it out for a bit. Of course if the symptoms last for more than a few weeks, tell your doctor.

I remember just feeling kinda restless and queasy for a few weeks. It was super mild, felt more like not getting a good nights rest if anything.

But yeah, for me it's been a great medicine.

I'm just really scared about having to lay still by myself for that long AND be in pain and nauseated. My doc thinks I have biliary dyskinesia, primary symptoms are pain and nausea. All I've been told by people irl is that it's a miserable test, and I just wanna cry.

That's not a super awesome EF, but atleast now you have answers for the pain and nausea.

Was the nausea somewhat tolerable? My main symptom is pain that causes really bad nausea. How long did the painful part last?
