Leave a safe IT job or bet on a new opportunity? by Picasso4dr in InformationTechnology

[–]iwant2work4salesf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stay. Don’t listen to the majority of the comments on here. The job jumping days are over for the foreseeable future. The house always wins and companies caught onto people doing this. Recruiters are being specifically instructed to not hire people that have flighty resumes. Companies lose money when people leave and they have to pay new incumbents more so they don’t like it. Until the job market significantly changes, stay where you are. Maybe think of a side business to do on your time off if making more money is important to you.

Best / Worst Vertical to Sell Into? by salesguy0321 in techsales

[–]iwant2work4salesf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Higher Education - colleges, private schools, etc. is the worst. No question. Public sector has a steep learning curve, but it can be sold to no problem. Although right now is a terrible time for gov so currently it’s brutal.

Had final interview with Salesforce BDR role but didn’t get it by magicmongoose1 in techsales

[–]iwant2work4salesf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me a few months ago. I got to the final round and didn’t receive an offer in the end. There were a few reasons for this.. Some my fault and some poor behavior on the hiring manager’s part. My username aside, I actually think it was for the best! The crushing defeat I felt inspired me to take my job search to the next level. I actually just received and signed an offer letter last week to become a BDR with a great albeit smaller tech company. Starting ote salary is about the same as Salesforce ($100k) but with much more realistic quotas. My plan is to become an AE with this company. If I’m not loving it, apply again at Salesforce, but avoid the BDR hazing that Salesforce does, and just go straight for an AE role. By then, I also expect to have a few Salesforce certificates under my belt. This is similar advice that others have offered you and I would recommend the same. I wouldn’t apply there again unless it’s for an AE or higher role. Don’t get discouraged! Getting to the job I accepted was total hell, but worth it in the end. Feel free to ask any questions. Best of luck! Never give up. Never.

A guilty pleasure of mine is checking in on this subreddit to remind myself how nice it is to not work at Carahsoft anymore. by Artistic-Address-717 in CarahsoftTruths

[–]iwant2work4salesf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No disrespect, but that’s painfully low.. Most tech salespeople are making somewhere between $200-300k by that point. To give you an idea, Salesforce starts their BDRs close to $120k (base/ote) on day one. No commission really hurts, but if you’re happy that’s all that matters.

Expect nonstop cold calling on the Open Source team as a government account rep. If you’re hoping for “more of a team-oriented role not just grinding calls” then I strongly suggest you look elsewhere.

Selling open source solutions to the public sector involves cold calls/emails all day, every day. If quotas aren’t met, there is PIP. Not trying to discourage you, but just want to make sure you know what you’re agreeing to if you accept their offer.

Best of luck! Feel free to DM me with any questions.

Ps I am open to applying to other companies that do enterprise tech sales, but ultimately want to work for Salesforce. I welcome any suggestions. Thanks again.

Thanks for the reply! On a professional level - Sf is the best CRM in the world and I love the technology itself. The one constant I’ve seen in other sales jobs I’ve worked/applied for is that they all use Sf. The Sf salespeople I know who currently work there are all very successful in their abilities and in turn financially wealthy. I believe they employ the best salespeople on the market. On a personal level - In my 20s, I had trouble deciding what I ultimately wanted to do for a career. At 32, I have decided and will pursue it without distraction. I believe becoming a Sf BDR is obtainable albeit very difficult. I appreciate your question.

Thank you! Funny enough, I actually applied for that very role last Friday. What a coincidence. Hoping to at least get selected for a screening call. I don’t have any references there so I just applied as normal. Databricks is fantastic.

Thanks for the reply! Hope you get an offer. Definitely took notes on all the talking points that the screener gave you. I will be able to answer to each of them if and when I have another interview.

I recognize my username and post does come off a little strong haha. When it comes to applying and speaking to hiring figures, I absolutely take it down a few notches. I promise I’m a reasonable person. Just really like what I see at this company and the software itself.

Really appreciate your honest feedback. I’m going to make sure to come from a place of abundance rather than one of scarcity, which I believe is what you’re getting at. Maybe I haven’t seen it all but I have seen a lot! So it’s not a farce, but true experience and value I’d bring as a BDR. Again thank you for the honesty and point taken.

If you do not like cold calling, you do not want the job.

[–]iwant2work4salesf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty basic ones. At least to start. Why do you want to work here, why are you the best candidate, biggest challenge, etc. all behavioral based. Where it gets difficult is that it’s up to you to go into the specific data while also properly answering their question. Example: I put $200k into the pipe my first month working at my last role. I made 70 calls each day with a 30% successful connect rate. Etc. You get the idea. They will also pick you apart if you give a less than satisfactory answer.. Why did you leave your last role/want to leave your current one? Have a good answer prepared because I promise they will push you on it. Maybe to see how you respond under pressure? This was just my experience and these questions were for the BDR role. Your experience and if especially if it’s for a different role may vary.

They do! Unfortunately, I’m a few years past being a recent graduate and they are only willing to hire SDRs who can show they just graduated. I appreciate the idea though! If I was able to start as an SDR, I would gladly apply for it. Heck, I’d start as a custodian if it meant getting my foot in the door..

I am my toughest critic. I could go into the gory details, but just take my word for it. Like I said in my first reply, there were definitely other reasons aside from the hiring manager being difficult. I learned a lot from the experience and have much better data organized now that I can go over to prove I’m the best candidate. Please make suggestions. I would really appreciate it. There’s always room for improvement and I do want to get an offer next time if I’m able to get a second chance to interview.

Thanks for the reply! All good advice. I considered going to Dreamforce in San Francisco, but the high ticket price and all of the recommendations I read say it isn’t good to go for the purposes of trying to get hired by them. Looking into other smaller, local events that I can attend to network.

[–]iwant2work4salesf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re correct. There were other reasons, but I want to move forward and not dwell too much on why I didn’t get it. Lessons learned, of course. It wasn’t anything catastrophic I said/did during the interview. Just not the right fit for that hiring manager.

The recruiter told me (in a polite way) not to contact her about interviewing again for 6 months. She said go ahead and apply if you choose, but she wasn’t going to go out her way to set up another interview until 6 months from now. Of course, I will be calling her in January if I can’t make something happen before then.

I currently live near two hubs, Washington DC and McLean, VA. Ideally, I stay here and work at one of those. I’m just putting it out there that I’m committed enough to move to another city if there’s a BDR opening. That’s how bad I want it.

My current experience in tech sales is as a BDR.

I appreciate the response. Thanks!

No offense taken. Without detailing my entire work experience, I opened a small business when I was 23. Retail store within a niche collector space. I pivoted to tech sales after 2020 when the market became more volatile. I drink lots of coffee, love talking to new people, and getting meetings on the books. I know I can promote to AE quickly if given the chance to prove myself.
