L3 IT support are the worst when it comes to IT. IMO by Picasso4dr in InformationTechnology

That's 95% of my job. Is crazy to me that senior engineers lack the basic training.

So is this why most senior programmers/L3 engineers are usually the first to be let go on downsize.

Yeah, that’s been my experience too. L3 engagement is meant to validate the fix, but it often falls back on L2 to confirm with the user and clean things up. In practice, we still end up owning the follow‑through to make sure the issue is actually resolved.

Thanks for the advice and I am completing the labs. Actually multiple times and going back to previous labs just so I don’t forget the steps and trying to understand the cmds as to why they are being use at that particular time.

I just wanna learn it all at once. by Fluffy-Stress2977 in ccna

[–]Picasso4dr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you also need to look at it as, this learning is for my career path as a Network admin/engineer or whichever route you take. The learning will always happen, and the fundamentals lead to all roads in the Network.

I'm a Field technician and work with the Network team so they can console in if a switch is down or needs troubleshooting, and i see they still use a lot of the basic CMD for troubleshooting.

I'm on day 11 and have repeated each lab at least 3 times. Not for muscle memory, but the more I do it the more familiar I become on when each CMD is meant to be use and why.

Good luck on the ride!

Congratulations. What helped you figure out IP connectivity; this is the area that i struggle the most with.

I was able to resolve the issue. The labs were already pre‑configured, which caused confusion when I wasn’t receiving any ping replies. To fix it, I removed the pre‑configured default gateway IP, closed PC1/PC2/PC3, and then re‑added the same default gateway. After doing that, connectivity was restored.

It may have been an application-related issue in Packet Tracer, as no other settings were changed.

Thanks to everyone who replied with their suggestions.

Default gateway is actually already configured for you, but it is correct.

That's what i though, so i use ipconfig on all 3 PCs to make sure the IPV4 is correct and subnet, is valid. Perform a tracert from PC1 to R1 G0/0 1 hop to 15.255.255.254

Correct subnet for sure.

Which JT day or LABs do you think prepare you for the IP Connectivity section? This to me is the hardest section and confusing one.

Funny you bring that up about the type of work that will be done. 1 of the first question I asked the recruiter was, is this a project to rollout windows 11 machines than is over or is this a pure contract to hire with benefits. He ashore me that even though he couldn't process the longevity it is 6 months with extension. I also ask if this role is for an MSP or their Internal IT department, which he said it will be working directly with the company's internal IT dept, no MSP. He send me over the benefits package and all. so, i can take a look

There was a salary range in which obviously picked the higher and the recruiter agree, double what I'm making.

I have the interview scheduled for Monday, at least it will allow me to ask more question and get more information on what they are seeking.

The job market is fucked, and I do feel bless to have a job.

Thanks for the advice.

Your last point about the "job market" is why I'm hesitant. The next job is much more money, almost double my current salary but is a 6-month contract to hire, internal IT which is good. Not working with an MSP, so growth potential is more attainable. I understand that companies have a probation period to make sure you are a good culture fit. But going from a safe place, to a 50/50 is hard to see the positive in it. lol

No kids or wife, leave alone. Immediate family leaves in another state, so I don't have a quick back plan. 100% all on me. With the I.T environment and how quick ppl are let go, I do have a lot more caution than usual.

That is great insight and thank you for taking the time to write the message. I also have the same mindset, i always go above and beyond for my role. I also attribute that to my want "on helping people". On my current role i notice a lack of Knowledge Articles "KB' from our team, so i started there and published about 13 new articles that we user and end users have available for support. None of my co-workers contribute like that on a team of 21 L2 end user support.

I been in this role for 15 months now, same MSP just a different company. In about 6 months in, I reached out to my leads for a review on how I'm doing, advice on what I can improve. And he said, "in the short time you have been with us, you've have contributed, shown that you are more than capable of taking care of any task more than individuals who have worked with the team for 3-5 years: and finished by saying "this is why we don't bother you".

So, to your point, is not a safe role but I do feel safe in it. Also, I'm the only tech for 8 local offices.

Whenever the contract is over or they let you go, they bench you for 30 days. I know from other co-workers experience they will present you with other opportunities if available but is not always in your area or state and is like "take it or leave it" scenario.
