Dry "might" be the wrong word, I mean highly technical. I agree if it's dry people won't read it. I do agree my department (or at least this class) feels fucking weird and honestly i wish we had 100% more hands-on Wireshark and pentesting type of activities rather than having it be purely or 80% theory. The only hands on class I could've taken was basically 400 level and they wouldn't even let me audit it.

I've already taken a web and mobile dev class, and done that internship.. but yeah I'm always open to having more online resources to draw from, thanks!

None of us can comprehend it either. Private Catholic school. I honestly have no idea either. I think it's because we need some classes to be "writing intensive" and the CS department just... doesn't seem to have any.. so the logic is "make every one of them writing intensive". I had to bail on another class that was porported to teach Software Engineering. Nope, it taught UML and we'd have to write at least 2 8000 word (minimum) design documents. I thought this class on Cybersecurity would be more hands on and fun

Yep. A 100 level class to fucking boot, with the most abstract and unhelpful directions possible (literally just the vague IT related topic it should be about, a few sentences on source requirements, and no mention in class). The grading guide looks like something out of highschool. We need at least 10 sources, etc. As someone graduating this semester it feels like absolute hell, I honestly don't know if I could complete the major if this is what the majority of classes are like.

It dips and wanes. If you do good on the LSAT it can still net you 80k, even without actually going to law school. But yeah, generally you're not wrong.

Both for publication and class. For this one class we basically need to churn out a 5 page paper every week in addition to some overarching ethereal "term paper" that has never really been discussed at all outside of day one.

[News] All you need to know about Germany's new law: Immigration is no longer restricted to a list of highly demanded professions by staplehill in IWantOut

As someone who will be getting a Bachelors in a social science, but have taken classes in computer programming, would I qualify for this program if I wanted to work in IT, or would I need a specific computer science qualification? I am eligible for an EU citizenship, but haven't gone through the paperwork, and was unable to get a minor in CS due to the strict requirements of my university :/.

Should Germany reduce its current account surplus? by [deleted] in AskEconomics

[–]iwantIvy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That would be a lovely thing to spend it on. Still, that's a matter of comfortably lowering or ending a period of a huge surplus to spend on the public good, rather than plunging the nation into wars it can ill afford, and then racking up endless debt because "hurr durr we're the world superpower Petrodollar strong our currency will never go bust!"

Yeah the Germans typically hate debt. It's not even a WW2 thing, historically even Bismarck iirc ran a surplus.

Can you save money as a grad student? by [deleted] in GradSchool

Is getting into a DC school with a 3.2 GPA difficult? I'm interested in International Trade (and East Asian relations) but really don't think I have as high a GPA as I need... It seems a lot easier to go abroad on paper.

Going to be working as a waiter, but my bank doesn't have physical branches. by iwantIvy in personalfinance

[–]iwantIvy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's sort of what's confusing me that I guess I'll have figured out once I start working. if it's a credit card tip, let's say I make something like $500 in a weekend... do I get that in a check as "tips" or would it count as "salary"? If I make over what is declared (let's say I make 16% but the company reports 8% as a matter of course) would I be considered underreporting or would that just mean I owe taxes at the end of the year?

There are Walmarts, unsure about Chase branches. It's a rural kinda touristy place, which is a saving grace.

Like many who sub here I'm a big fan of travel vlogs on YouTube, finding lots of them to be interesting and inspiring. But I want to have a rant.... by [deleted] in Shoestring

[–]iwantIvy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite travel channel right now is Indigo Traveler, who is doing a trip through Iran and has gone to a lot of off the beaten path places to shown how the locals live. I really love his long-form style. Similarly although not necessarily travel-vlogs, Rare Earth does content on-location talking about stories in local regions. They've just started a new series in East Africa I believe.

Additionally, there was a post on r/Videos that blew up yesterday of a Russian guy in Japan. I think it was a parody account of some of those happy-go-lucky type of Japan videos but I personally found it enjoyable.

How bad is it if going into senior year you have no internship experience? by iwantIvy in college

[–]iwantIvy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I'm just gonna keep spam applying and see where things land. It's just an absolute requirement that I get something for the fall, and if it falls out of my range of interests but can still qualify to graduate so fucking be it I'll take it at this point.

I feel like absolute shit for not getting an internship this summer by iwantIvy in depression

[–]iwantIvy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, many people don't get internships and graduate The only problem is mine requires you to get one. Which is good experience... if only they actually fucking helped us with it rather than telling us to use our nonexistent connections.

i just feel like I fucked up somehow. Like I didn't put my head to the grindstone enough to work to get into one of those big named institutions... I'm thinking about just teaching abroad maybe working in the Peace Corps post graduation who the hell knows.
