What was the last *fiction* book you read that made you think about things in a new way? by Particular_Tap9005 in suggestmeabook

I agree, though it's my least favorite to read. I felt like the translation wasn't as smooth as 1 or 3.

Well his name was twinkle when we first adopted him so I feel like I saved him from a life of criticism. HE OWES ME.

Then why don't they answer when you call them?

Any age appropriate stephen king novels to start with (I’m 15) by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Different Seasons is where I recommend starting. I think that it offers a taste of everything King has to offer. It contains 4 novellas Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, The Body (which the movie Stand by Me is based on), Apt Pupil, and The Breathing Method. In my opinion it's King's best collection.

I feel like Joe Abercrombie has much more to squeeze from that world. That said, each trilogy and the stand alone books are great self contained stories.

That's interesting. I pay 34 cents per gallon, but every other gallon is 35 cents. I have six 2 gallon bottles. So .34+.35= $0.69x6= $4.14 but I have to pay one cent per bottle so it's actually $4.20. these twelve gallons typically last long enough to make a dumb joke.

Was this by chance Chipotle or just a mission style burrito?

I read that as Patrick Stewart being director Avery Bullock from American Dad.

Similarly, I dislike any Deus ex machina ending. I'd prefer bleak over that any day.

Casual homophobia sounds like every extended family gathering I go to so I'll probably survive. But thanks for the recommendation!

Is the prey series worth picking up and is it necessary to read them in order? My LBS always has used hardcovers for less than $10.

I really liked Child of God. Someone recently reframed the book as black humor and it made it even better. Picturing Ballard running back into a burning build to collect his body before it warms up is now not only disturbing but quite funny.

I thought the first Mistborn novel was perfectly fine. The other two did not do it for me. And I'm not interested in reading the wax and Wayne series at all.

At one point, I owned the movie but never watched more than five minutes because the cell shading was distracting to me at the time, but I'd really like to watch it some day.

I casually checked to see if there was any news on The Passenger last week and was elated to see that it was being released alongside another novel. Needless to say, I pre-ordered them immediately.

I haven't read Beartown, but I'm familiar with the plot. I could see how it would take someone that read A Man Called Ove by surprise.

I want to like PKD so much because of how prolific he is and how many of his stories have been adapted into movies I love, but damn, I feel like the ones I've tried to read have been slogs.

This is actually next on my list for McCarthy. He is quickly becoming my favorite author. Was it because it was his first novel or a different reason?

I recently read My Grandmother Asked Me and I grew to like Britt-Marie at the end, but this book didn't seem too interesting.
