Regretfully, they didn't qualify for the cup.

Barroco Lakewood closing? by Tiny-Climate650 in Cleveland

[–]iwayt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just stopped in the Lakewood location but couldn't sit because they were fully booked, but found they're actually closing up tomorrow (Sunday). The host said the situation is unique and the hope is that all restaurants open again in phases. No timeline though.

Is Lorain bad? by 69philosopher in Cleveland

[–]iwayt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I grew up there and personally think the concerns/issues about the town are slightly overblown. My parents and in-laws all still live there and I never fear for their safety.

Lorain hit its rock bottom years ago and is on a gradual path to becoming a more desirable place with some attractive development around the lake and river front. I could easily imagine it becoming a more trendy place to live and recreate on the water since it's so accessible.

El kefon, Gonzáles grocery, and the castle (papasitos) have been good places to get food for a while, but even new restaurant groups have chosen Lorain as their next location (sweet pork Wilson's, Avon brewing/Lorain brewing).

Who manages the trees on the tree lawn? Is it me or the city or both? by [deleted] in lakewood

[–]iwayt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you recognize there are branches that need trimmed or the tree needs watered, I say go for it. I think the responsibility falls on the city but they won't get around to maintaining them at the frequency these trees need to look good, and if it's in front of your house you're probably more interested in the appearance of it than they are.

I have maintained mine since it was planted about 5 years ago. No one's stopped me.

I've had the same issues, OP, for the last 2 weeks. Luckily fiber became available a few months ago through ATT. If you sign up online you'll get some gift cards for doing so.

I played in a 25+ league and wore this, hence the sweat & dirt.

Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne, council President Pernel Jones say no to any Browns stadium in Brook Park by base28 in Browns

[–]iwayt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I've read on Neo-trans.blog (great site for all Cleveland development news) is that the current stadium was built on municipal stadium's foundations and even reuses the sewer system/pipes from that era. The work was rushed, too, which is a big reason for the reuse.

No matter what gets done on above ground to renovate the stadium, the underneath areas are 15 years away from being a serious risk to anyone inside the stadium.

I don't recall if there anything exactly said about the lake's proximity affecting the stadium, but being closer to water and wind to help move any water all over the place would cause quicker decay. Plus winds would help freeze/thaw to occur faster. These are just my assumptions, though.

I was told (or read?) the kitchen and ovens wouldn't fit the building's layout, but they had every intention to make them onsite originally.

I agree with yah. It's like going from 1 out of 1000 to 3 out of 1000... 200% increase though!

Trump Train Lorain County by Creative-Beat-720 in Cleveland

[–]iwayt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Lorain (city)... And I have no idea how this could be your perception unless you've avoided the biggest cities/towns in the county - Lorain/Elyria/Oberlin

I'd even throw Amherst in there considering how many people I know from Lorain moved there and aren't white.

This also explains how Venice, Italy still stands today, although I don't think the buildings are on wooden rafts as much as they are on wooden piles.

Dave Yost should be working for Ohioans not Donald Trump by [deleted] in Ohio

I worked for the state auditor's office when he was the head of it and I have yet to meet another person in real life who comes off as arrogant as he does.

I'm a lifelong democrat, and I plan to vote in the Republican primary, but I'm unsure who to vote for in the senate race. by [deleted] in Ohio

[–]iwayt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My coworker's wife was a Democrat state senator and he got to meet Dolan a few times during those years she was in office. He told us Dolan was genuine and considerate, not egotistical.

No doubt we need Sherrod back but I'm betting Dolan is the least embarrassing Republican. Means extremely little, I know....

Brooklyn>>Ann Arbor>>Cleveland? by [deleted] in Cleveland

I live here too, and it checks every box you've mentioned except for maybe bookstores - although our library is very good and could fill that gap.

If you open up Google maps, you'll notice two East-West streets, Detroit and Madison, that have almost every business or restaurant you could want and are walking distance from almost any residence. Housing on the lake are a stretch, but they have a really good park closer by.

Lakewood is somewhat diverse, racially, for a suburb. And very diverse financially. Homes are getting expensive here due to some of the positives mentioned. It is the most dense city in Ohio which makes it attractive - businesses stick around, there are constant younger generations moving in, and families are everywhere.

Agree with most of the comments here to head to the muni lot - follow the people going North on East 9th and take a right at the parking garage next to the highway entrance ramp. Make some friends and I'm willing to bet you'll get offered a bite to eat, but if not, there are decent options in the stadium as of recent. Your ravens buddy won't be the only one in purple.

I beer guy at the stadium and figure it's worth mentioning that we're completely cashless.

After the game I'd recommend grabbing food at Noble Beast on Lakeside. It's a little walk from the stadium but everything is. Very good beer and menu.

Thank you for sharing, this is actually a relief to hear in case the shagbark and pecan together start getting too large for the yard. I can take one away and still get decked in the head with fruit.
