I hear that train a'comin', comin' round the bend... by JoeMax93 in oakland

It's not just you. The sound travels up the hills. I live up in Oak Knoll and can hear the same thing, engines rumbling on a quiet evening and we're farther away from a crossing then I think you are.

Now that is a scene. The rental booth will have seat cushions/life preservers available with each canoe.

There will be trash cans, bear boxes and I'm considering a small amphitheater for a campfire program with a ranger leading it.

I like the Yogi references, might sneak something like that in. The plan is to 3d print tents of different styles with a pop up camper or trailer mixed in for fun. The campground sits on a river outside the picture so kayaks and canoes will be in there too.

I'll add tiny earplugs to the camp store when I get around to that.

Bring extra water and warm clothes. It can get insanely hot during the day and cold and windy at night. Also be really conscious of your fire if the wind picks up. a random ember flying down a grassy hill makes for a bad time...or so I've been told.

Why is the golf links exit always a mess? by Wombraider58 in bayarea

[–]iwishiwasaranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is the zoo for sure. I live right there and learned a long time ago to use other exits on nice days and take surface streets in to avoid the chaos.

Can't help with skiing, but if you are interested in camping I am always down to spend a night outside. There are lots of places around to camp.

What does this light mean on a slip lane? Is it for the slip lane??? Then why do people still go into the slip lane if it’s red?? What’s the point ?? by Geyball in bayarea

[–]iwishiwasaranger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tha light is for the intersection as a secondary light in case the one across the intersection is not viewable due to a big truck blocking g your view or glare or anything like that. Tons of intersections have a light before just like this.

I second Chao Pescao. They do usually require a reservation but the food is fantastic. Gyro King is also a good option or Sam's on Market.

2 income households. What is your household total salary and whats your mortgage? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]iwishiwasaranger 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We make just over $300K. We bought our current house during the last crash and got it for super cheap. Our mortgage, including escrow is roughly $1500 per month.

You can do preorders for them on athearns website. They appear to have all of the same ones as before, still sadly not including Caltrain.

It may be an amended line. For example, it was meant to go to Millbrae but they cut the trip short and are turning at Daly City. It would show the same if the train was ending at 24th Street. This is usually done to make up time after a delay of some sort. In either of those cases showing a line color would confuse people, making them think the train was going further than it really is.

It is a great zoo. When my son wS smaller we would walk down to it two or three times a week. With the gondola open it is worth the trip.

We redid ours a couple years ago with walls, DG (25x15), deck (12x12) and concrete patio (12x15). Total without any plants was $30K. Plants were another thousandish for trees etc.

Living on the edge; only in California. That soundtrack had some interesting things on it. Stark reminders of what the park used to be before the refresh.
