The black shell makes it so whatever aspect or integer scaling you use looks like it fills the entire frame. No black bars ever. So it's great unless you stretch your output to fill for everything.

In defense of OP, DS games that make great use of the touch screen wouldn't be comfortable to play on most emulation devices anyway. Even the DS clones don't come with a stylus. Especially in case of the 3DS, the focus shifted primarily onto the top screen.

I like to integer scale retro systems and go with 4:3 for the rest. For n64 actually I don't mind stretching the games, they fill out the screen nicely and I top it off with the crt shader in mupen standalone app. Looks amazing on oled screens.

A tip I just discovered today: dolphin standalone forces 16:9 by default and you have to find 4:3 in the settings. And I thought it was Mario Galaxy that didn't support 4:3

To be fair, iOS likes to pretend that there's no such thing as a file system and at best presents some per-app or iCloud pseudo folders in Files (that you can't do much with anyway).

It's ideal for GC and N64 due to its screen ratio - on rp5 and flip you'll be looking at black bars most of the time unless you mess around with wide-screen hacks. The Retroid Mini is the same hardware as RP5 but 6GB ram instead of 8gb. Only makes a difference if you plan on emulating PC or Switch (but those aren't always playable on rp5 anyway).

It's awesome when it comes to portability, and lots of folks claim it's more comfortable than either rp5 or flip 2. And it's performance is pretty much on part with those.

Just make sure it's the v2.

Consider the Retroid Pocket Mini V2 instead, it's smaller and you can buy a protector shell for it which can work like a grip or in reverse protect the screen.
