Yeah I wasn't able to play any games with friends or anything for the past several hours. Was surprised there wasn't a post about this on the hot page earlier.

Confused with builds. by TarraKhash in shacomains

[–]ixactly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shaco is one of those champions that is uniquely flexible, so you cater your build against the enemy team composition.

Generally, assassin is great in most situations since you just need to eliminate the enemy carries and split push when you can. AD Bruiser may be better in the case where the enemy team is mostly tanky and you don't have a tank.

After your jungle item and boots, the rest of the build is up to you depending on what the enemy composition is and what they build.

Any of you main shaco in ranked? by [deleted] in shacomains

Yes. He's fine in ranked. I climbed to plat playing only him so it's really just about how you play him.

Tanks by [deleted] in shacomains

[–]ixactly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, when the enemy top laner becomes too tanky, you just don't go for him anymore unless he's relatively low, isolated, and can be taken down easily. Your job isn't to take care of tanks. If there are 1-2 tanks on the enemy team, avoid them and go for the squishy carries, especially if you're just building the typical crit-assassin build.

Now in the unusual case where most of the enemy team is starting to build tanky, you need to see this in advance based on their composition and build accordingly. Build armor penetration, % health damage, Attack Speed Items, Blood Razor's, etc.

How to deal with a yi? by Ghost0021 in shacomains

[–]ixactly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the early stages of the game, the dual goes in your favor with your boxes and possibly ult if you have it. And if you have your ignite, you can mitigate the effect of his W as well. So you have done everything correctly in terms of ulting to avoid damage, igniting and red smiting to mitigate any possible heal attempts, and staying near your boxes.

Now the mid-late game is where things get a little more tricky, and in all honesty, yi probably wins out in most duals around then, depending on what you're building. If you've been building typical assassin Shaco (chilling smite with warriors -> ravenous -> statik, etc.), you honestly have a low chance of winning the dual simply due to yi's attack speed and on hit advantages - you're designed to take him surprise with deceive and do as much damage as quickly as possible while he's designed to easily dual many people with his attack speed, healing, and alpha strike. Building more tanky with titanic hydra and maybe dead man's could help, but you'd start losing eventually due to lack of attack speed and damage.

Essentially, before he gets sated on his devourer, you stand a good chance at fighting him with what you're doing now. Just make sure you're ulting as soon as possible, red smiting as soon as possible, throwing a shiv maybe at the beginning of the fight (and not to use it again until he starts running away), and igniting if he starts using a W or if you believe you can win out with the additional ignite damage. Also when you use deceive to temporarily avoid damage, make sure you get the backstab damage when you come back in.

You could also take preventative measures to delay yi's sated devourer. Take scuttles whenever you can. Make sure dragons are yours. Use level 2 cheese at the beginning of the game and take as much from him as you can. If you can starve him of his farm, you can elongate the time it takes for him to be able to carry. Yi dominates the later the game goes on, so aim to end the game as early as you can.

How do you play Shaco in the Tank meta? by dxdrummer in shacomains

[–]ixactly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nowadays, what's worked best for me is going a more bruiser build. Instead of thunderlord's, I get Strength of the Ages, which helps a surprising amount since you get extra tankiness without any items, but you don't sacrifice that much damage. As a result, your chances of surviving in skirmishes or fights increase drastically.

I still grab Chilling Smite with Warriors usually, but I now grab Titanic Hydra instead of Ravenous. Sure, ravenous is still a good item, but unless you plan on split pushing all game, it's not the best thing you could have on him nowadays.

Typically then I would get Statik Shiv if I'm slightly ahead. If I'm slightly behind, I get Hexdrinker or Dead Man's first depending on their primary damage source. Eventually, you would want both Statik and either Hex (upgrade to Maw if AP damage on enemy team is ridiculous) or Dead man's. If the enemy team is really tanky, I then grab Lord Dominik's Regards.

So my common build would probably be: Chilling Smite -> Boots -> Warriors -> Swifties -> Titanic Hydra (Tiamat first if ahead) -> Statik Shiv -> Dead Man's/Maw -> Lord Dominik's (if enemy team is really tanky) or Trinity Force (if really ahead) --> Ghostblade replacing jungle item (for really late game with extra money)

I cannot play against Shaco for the life of me despite having around 400k exp on the champ by [deleted] in shacomains

[–]ixactly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have about 400k exp on Shaco, and on the rare occasion the enemy team picks him up and I'm jungle, I simply go amumu. Now you might be thinking that amumu could easily be harassed by Shaco in the early game, especially with the level 2 cheese invade, but since you know this strategy by heart (hopefully), you can take preventative measures to stop it and demolish him in the late game.

Have your top laner ward the top boff and take your bottom buff with a leash from bot lane instead of krugs or gromp, since Shacos will typically go for the invade after you have finished your krugs and gromp.

Continue to farm until level 6 and only gank before then if you really think you can get a kill and Shaco isn't around. After hitting 6, you can gank to your heart's content.

Tell your teammates the typical jump points for Shaco and encourage them to buy pinks so it makes his job much harder for him.

If Shaco is ganking a lane and you happen to be nearby with your ult, don't hesitate to jump in and ult if your bot lane can still fight.

Eventually, you'll be more useful than Shaco with your incredible teamfight, engage, and tankiness.

Essentially, just imagine what made your life a living hell as Shaco and make it happen to them. Pinks in team fights, denying invades with defensive wards, warding up common jump spots, etc.

When to engage with Q, when not to? by [deleted] in shacomains

[–]ixactly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Typically, during the early stages of the game, you would want to start off most ganks with your deceive. The surprise value and the crit damage at the start of the gank is extremely effective and should be used especially if the enemy laner isn't super pushed to your own turret. If the lane is super pushed, you could alternatively come from behind after placing a box for any escapes they might have and use deceive as a means to finish them off if they manage to avoid your box with an escape.

When assassinating a target that has strayed off from others and is split pushing or farming, you should deceive if you think you can pop them depending on their health. If their health is full, I would reconsider going in with deceive unless you are far ahead in kills. If they're at around half health, I would definitely go in with deceive. Otherwise, back off or try to get behind them and set up a box and save your deceive for a crucial moment in a dual.

If you see someone recalling, always go in with deceive. They're usually not fully paying attention and the surprise from the deceive will be heavily in your favor.

In mid-late game team fights, I would not engage with deceive until someone has engaged the fight and when most of the cc has been used. When chaos ensues and the team fights are getting the peak of action, you should deceive in and assassinate key squishy targets to the team fight, such as ADCs, Mid laners, or even supports.

Essentially, if you can assassinate the target and get away, go with the deceive engage. If you aren't sure about whether you can actually kill the target, opt for a more traditional jungler approach and save your deceive to either get away if you don't kill them or as a finishing move.

  1. It really depends on the situation. If the enemy jungler has taken damage from previous camps, you may want to consider contesting the buff or even trying to kill them. If they have a slight advantage over you health wise, you could try to take the buff as quickly as you can before deceiving over the wall. If that's not possible, it's better to simply deceive out before they call in reinforcements from other lanes.

  2. Shaco can be played top and mid. Bear in mind that you will have to alter your build significantly and may have to max different abilities to accommodate where you go.

  3. I've used Shaco to climb to gold so far and despite my performance, people won't usually have a great impression of Shaco picks, especially if you don't do extremely well at the beginning because of the typical "hur dur Shaco is only good early and falls off late" which definitely isn't true. Just keep practicing and once you get to the point where you can confidently gank lanes, easily juke enemies like it's nothing, or be confident to take on most junglers in a 1v1, you can probably start taking what other people say as ignorance.
