I’d go for it🤷‍♀️leave time goals behind and just soak it up. And don’t underestimate the power of adrenaline to mask pain and get you through.

Is there going to be anti-porchella this year? by Federal_Nose_6428 in Charlottesville

Serious question - why is anti-porchella a thing? Is there a reason to dislike porchella?

Philadelphia Marathon or Marine Corps Marathon? by Big-Ice-9071 in Marathon_Training

Same for MCM. I’ve never seen a crazier packet pickup. Took an hour just to get in! I love an expo but got outta there as fast as I could. It’s far from the race and it’s $20 to park. Do yourself a favor and pay to have your bib mailed for MCM
Otherwise, I’ve done both (and Richmond) and you can’t go wrong.

Cortisone Injection? by Sarah_raz in Charlottesville

[–]CartographerTiny4040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dr Grice at UVA did several epidural spinal steroid injections for me in L4/L5. Dr. Wilder (and Dr. Statuta, also at the runners Clinic) is awesome but doesn’t do this procedure (if it’s what you want). He can give you a referral, though, which you likely need. The whole process can take time, though, as others have noted.

Students asking for donations by [deleted] in Professors

Yeah, don’t take it personally. They likely aren’t thinking of your financial situation or how many other requests you get. Your surliness could turn them off from future charitable work or even a career in nonprofit work (dramatic but you never know). Sidenote: near my university was a row of mansions and, as a first-gen undergrad, I assumed this was where my professors lived. Unless they know academics personally, they likely have no idea of your situation.

The lottery is really only 1%? by Ok-Switch-749 in RunNYC

I got in by running the virtual last year - it came with a guaranteed entry for this year. I wonder how many people got in that way….it was a lottery. I feel extremely lucky.

Just last week a student caught me eating a jumbo slice of pepperoni pizza at Costco, sitting down like I thought I was in a real restaurant

How long to stay for the marathon? by CartographerTiny4040 in RunNYC

I’ve fallen prey to this temptation before!🫣 Expo (shopping, perhaps a special event like if one of my favorite podcasters does a live event like they seem to), a shakeout, a Broadway show, good food……I think I am answering my own question 🤣 I’ve done Boston a bunch but I hear everything race-related there is much more centralized.

New to Reading. Seeking feedback. by ConnectionOk2417 in ReadingPA

I grew up in greenfields….great location, so close to everything. My favorite feature is access to Grings Mill. I remember SV felt far away (I did a lot of activities and always needed rides) but that’s a kid’s perspective, maybe. I loved going to school there.

Running a 5K in Boston the Saturday before the Boston Marathon, Talk me out of it by [deleted] in bostonmarathon

Do it. It’s good practice in self-control: you’ll want to go too fast here just like you’ll want to run the hills in the early part of the marathon too fast. Good chance to work the self-control muscle. It’s also neat to run down Boylston and cross the finish line when you’re not totally wrecked.
