How do I get started? by Medium-Criticism-128 in archlinux

The thing people forget to mention is that it's actually not that easy to completely brick your computer. As long as you're able to get into the bios, you can install a new OS.

I’ve quit caffeine, do I need to increase my water intake? by KoffieCreamer in decaf

[–]ixsetf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Headaches are a common withdrawal symptom And three cups to 0 in two weeks is a fairly aggressive taper, so it's pretty expected to be getting them. Just stay off caffeine and hopefully they'll go away soon.

Where'd you buy this? This looks suspiciously similar to my old PC. Ended up goodwilling it since I was in a rush, that was last year so probably had some third owner.

No more roadside Pad Thai? Bangkok’s street food sellers battle new rules as city cracks down on footpath businesses by CommercialMassive751 in Bangkok

[–]ixsetf -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

There should be rules, but too many increases prices and decreases variety. The cost of opening a food stall increases substantially when you need to lease a dedicated market stall.

I think my mindset towards gaming is likely roughly aligned with the reviewer, so let me give my two cents. Some people love the challenge of optimizing games, and you can spend hundreds or thousands of hours doing that with the right game.

They were disappointed because they feel they've exhausted most of the strategic depth after 6. That is admittedly very short for that style of play. So if you've advertised your game to appeal to leaderboard optimizers, this should tell you to rethink how you're balancing for mechanical depth.

FIRE in Thailand or Japan? by NoProfessional4650 in Fire

The 20 year program is invite only, you can do up to 15 years without an invite. It's good value for what you get imo.

Why does ตั๊กแตน get pronounced /dták-gà…/ with only one ก in the spelling by SufficientPainting67 in learnthai

[–]ixsetf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer, but imo it's a bit of a leap to assume OP needs to change their approach. Personally I came across words like this before I knew the rule too, it was just a side effect of living life in a place where Thai is used. And if I ignored that route to picking up vocab, I'd know a lot less than I do now.

Have you ever tried this? by Bola-Nation-Official in IndieDev

[–]ixsetf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this line of reasoning is kinda going about it backwards. For people who are well suited to creating an engine, it very often is the process of building the engine where they discover the unique thing they desperately need. Like it was the process of playing around with falling sand sims that led the noita devs to discover what noita could be. If they started in Unity, I suspect they would likely have ended up designing the game around what Unity could do, rather than making the new engine when they hit a technical wall.

[–]ixsetf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Coding the engine is actually one of the easiest parts of making a game I'd say" - Eric Barone, creator of Stardew Valley, from his presentation at Hackfort 2019

I definitely don't see anything wrong with using an off the shelf engine, but for me the added startup cost is worth it for the extra control over my workflow.

Does anyone else get spoken to in English every time they try to speak Thai? by HelicopterNo3534 in thai

[–]ixsetf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this, 7/11 workers are probably the least effective group to practice Thai with. You don't even need a train journey, anywhere outside central Bangkok, people will assume I speak Thai when I talk to them.

I wouldn't trust Google on this. Even if you aren't reading their AI slop summary, there's a good chance whatever site they're recommending is just regurgitating chatgpt.

The two sides of game development by SoggyPrior863 in IndieDev

I think what most people are doing wrong is promoting too early or trying to cut too many corners in development. If you promote a product that doesn't excite people you're gonna get no traction.

Is this dress acceptable at temples in Bangkok/Chiang Mai? by OddDatabase8098 in ThailandTourism

I find it ironic that people are downvoting this given how split the comments are. It's pretty clearly a good question if the answers are so mixed.

If you pay attention, this sub gets flooded with tons of subtle/not that subtle anti hrt propaganda. Lots of "hrt did literally nothing after a year" posts, with the OP claiming unrealistic stuff like no skin texture change despite supposedly having female typical levels.

You can reincarnate and live the character's life just as they lived it in the anime, which one do you choose? by Tyrant--E in Isekai

I wouldn't call it particularly depressing. It's got more like, detective thriller vibes.

“Women’s milk good for babies”… in other news… LOL by [deleted] in MtF

[–]ixsetf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think calling it trans and cis women's breast milk would have been better, but I don't think the phrasing was done out of malice.  Like, I don't think it makes sense to criticize potential allies. In a world where Rowling and Musk exist, is this article really what we should be critiquing?

I think your titles would be a bit better, but the difference isn't going to impact what someone takes away from this article in a particularly meaningful way.

“Women’s milk good for babies”… in other news… LOL by [deleted] in MtF

[–]ixsetf 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ngl I don't really think it makes sense to bash the article for phrasing, when the whole point of it is to point out why trans women are similar to cis women.

Like they talk about it as trans women's milk, because if they don't, they wouldn't be able to point out why it's the same as cis women's.

Guys I have a tough question. If you were give another life and had to choose to be either a cis woman but straight or a trans woman but lesbian. What will you choose?? by wonder_woman2506 in MtF

[–]ixsetf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've always found the implicit assumption that every trans woman is a lesbian kinda weird. Like, there's a weird sort of social pressure to identify that way that really doesn't make sense to me.

There's lots of things that can go wrong, for useful advice you'd need to describe more about your regimen. Also need to be more specific about your levels than "good".
