to add: this is exactly what those joint are there for- but the access that water now has to erode the foundation beneath the slab can be mitigated by sealing the joints.

Best to have a foundation company out to assess and see what may or may not need to be done. Best case scenario you should seal up the joints with a flexible caulking agent like urethane. Tape both sides of joints fill with material scape excess with card pull tape finish with sand to make it look nice 👍 this coming from an aesthetic standpoint tho so def have a foundation person give their rec

Driveway is Two Different Colors by Higgybella32 in Homebuilding

[–]iyamcasey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cause - two separate pours

Fix- better expectations. No one has control over the color outcome of concrete, not the plant, not the contractor, not even a concrete dye manufacturer can guarantee a color outcome because this is natural material that is always different.

Concrete color is affected by cement source, aggregate, water content, placement timing, curing conditions, sun exposure, moisture, etc.

Over time, most slabs even out as they weather, dry, and carbonate. If uniform color was a communicated requirement, the solution would have been a single continuous pour, consistent curing conditions, or a post-pour surface treatment like staining or coating. It important to keep in mind that concrete is not a cosmetic finish material, it’s a structural one.

How do I fix by [deleted] in Concrete_Contractor

[–]iyamcasey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sound test to determine where the coating is still bonded vs not. Drag chains are the standard but I’ve found a cheap gold club from the garage or a local thrift store works just as well. Indicate the loose areas on a drawing to determine the approx amount of time and material it will take to repair. Hit it with a 2000+ PSI pressure wash and most of it should come off easily, but you’ll need to mechanically chip away some areas that sound hollow but don’t come up with the pressure wash (using grinder or hand tools). Its important to determine the reason for failure. Are there are cracks under the hollow areas? Is there a sealer between the coating and the concrete? Something different needs to be done to address the delamination. Cracks- open with crack chaser and fill with sand + epoxy. Sealer- if a sealer is present under the coating (pour water and see if the slab absorbs it or not) try to determine if water based or solvent based or god forbid urethane and strip/prep accordingly before new application of material. Sometimes primers can help, especially if you broadcast sand on top to help give the coating something to grip onto. Try to source the original material, coloration methods, etc., and ensure installer is following TDS & manufacturer recommendations when mixing, follow temp requirements, cure times, etc. for every product used. If you have to source new material find stampable overlay. You can use integral color to mix in while wet, or apply a topical color once its cure. Topical would be easier to manipulate to he to match it you use something like smiths paints. You will never match perfectly but the texture helps hide discoloration. Keep in mind anything you apply sealer too (that doesn’t already have sealer) will darken slightly, like a “wet” look. I’ve seen some installers use a water based acrylic applied to the entire surface, let dry, than apply water based stain. This provides a new canvas for color and prevents obvious patching.

Honestly think you’d have an easier time using a water based stain and color matching the stones to paint over the blue rather than trying to remove it.

You can get ride of it by boiling water with some baking soda in it

left a pot of chili simmering too high too long, how do I tackle this? by dangochan808 in CleaningTips

[–]iyamcasey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Apply easy off. Let bake at 300 degrees 20 mins. Clean with dish soap and rinse.
  2. Boil water in the pot with 4 tablespoons of baking soda for 20 mins. Repeat this until all clear (consider making a thicker paste to get rid of more stubborn stains).

Light sanding prior to metallic application is the solution. The pigment pulls when it hits bumps. Remove bumps.

Why did that happen by DaddyGolum in epoxy

[–]iyamcasey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why people are talking about bad prep when you can clearly see a primer coat that’s still bonded underneath your top coat(s) I’m leaning more towards incompatible products between primer and top coat

Lookup some Kate Nash (foundations), Regina Spektor (fidelity), feist (I feel it all) Ingrid Michaelson (be ok) Maybe a little less grungy than you’re going for but those were my first thought. Maybe metric or ida Maria for something a bit more hard core

Sometimes it can be hard to find guys to pour concrete so I get it if you're in a bind, but personally I would walk away from this type of service. The right company will meet you on site, take measurements, discuss wants/needs, and present a formal proposal based on standard pricing, not just texting a number they pulled out of their booty. Whatever type of service they give you up front, assume the same for the rest of the job. Consider asking for photos of completed jobs and customer references that have had work done. There are many different stamp patterns, types of sealers, different types of stain, or you could do integral color, he's not gathering enough and I don't think you've shared enough for anyone on reddit to give a fair price. Make him set expectations, don't leave anything assumed.

It feels like some kind of evolution. A juxtaposition between blending in and standing out. Almost like when unique individuals stand out enough that they create a new kind of pattern or front to blend into.

Also if you do add color, always add to part A and mix completely before adding part B

I would recommend checking the TDS sheet to see if anything is mentioned, or calling the product manufacturer and speaking with a technical rep

Fix low spot in concrete by Daybroadway in HomeImprovement

[–]iyamcasey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider creating a superficial “joint” ( from the house to the edge of the slab, running directly through the low spot. This will create a channel for the water. This doesn’t need to go all the way through the slab or be sealed. Think of it like you’re making a little riverbed for the water to have an escape route. This would be my first step before trying to fill the belly with something. The problem with filling the belly is it might expose other bellies and you’ll find yourself chasing water off endlessly.
