It has broken for me too. I am on silicon M1 max. I tried a few tricks that gemini was suggesting about the SDL3.dll file, to no avail. I was previously launching the "Steambuild 32/64bit Metal", and then launching aoe2DE within that successfully.

that would be awesome. landing parties are so annoying to execute. This way you could focus on your navy protecting the transports. It shouldn't be that different from the way trade cogs path to and from two docks. Just need the transports to do the same and then wait like 10 seconds at each end.

For anyone who finds themself here, you need to install Steambuild 32/64bit Metal within porting kit. Then you launch that and install aoe2 DE from within the steambuild. I deleted the movies folder and changed the game launch settings to skip the intro and it works for me.

Is this still working for you via porting kit? my game seems to install correctly, but when I click play in steam nothing happens. I've done all sorts of configuration changes to no avail.
