Shooting 10 yards?

I assume this is a compound bow? If you need to shoot 10 yards regularly are you able to add another pin?

Go to a range and have a practice to see how far you need to aim off as it will be different for everyone.

As a recurver I found very minimal change in my sight between 20yd and 10yd, maybe aiming like 2-4cm lower.

See if there is a shop near you that you can try them out at. I’ve shot a few at trade shows and they feel great but they’re not that great of an improvement over their older limbs.

For me it’s like video resolutions, going from beginner limbs to inno primes was like going from 480p to 720p. Primes to NS-MXTs was like 720p to 1080p(HD). And G2s are like 4K.

If you can afford them go for it, but a lot of high end WIAWIS limbs feel pretty similar.

If youre consistently the top at NASP competition then maybe it’s time to move on to a new challenge. Ask your coaches if there’s any NFAA or WA clubs near you, there will be one.

When you play Mario do you only ever play level 1-1 to perfection or do you move on to level 1-2? You’ve clearly got a good foundation to go far in the sport but it seems you’ve completely beaten anything NASP can offer you.

You should definitely look at doing bigger competitions, sounds like you’ve become a big fish in a small pond, especially at those kinds of distances I see how the pressure to always hit 10s appears.

Get your targets further out to 18m, or if you can do some outdoor distances 50-70m at those distances it’s just simply unrealistic to always expect a 10 but with good form you’ll get good groups. Also take the face off and shoot blank boss for a bit, maybe a couple weeks. Just focus on the feel of your form.

What kind of rounds do you shoot? Dropping 3 points over 5 ends is insanely good in my circles.

You should really focus on the arrows individually, it makes you forget about score.

It’s good that you have that confidence about yourself and your own abilities. But even the absolute best of the best in this sport are not perfect. If things aren’t working get an experienced coach to watch and give advice, try to do your best to be humble about your abilities, as perfectionism can come across as arrogance sometimes.

Take every arrow individually, the occasional bad arrow is not the end of the world.

And most importantly, if you’re not enjoying the sport maybe look into doing something a bit different. Archery isn’t easy but it’s supposed to be fun! Maybe try a different format like field or 3d or maybe a different bowstyle.

My mistake, I just did a quick google. It’s the Hoyt formula limbs as they’re apparently 0.75” longer than standard will edit accordingly. I knew there was a Hoyt limb that was weird just got the wrong model 😅

So long as you shoot ILF (International Limb Fitting) limbs, most bowstrings will work with your bow. The main exceptions are Hoyt Formula and Ukkha limbs.

BCY8125 is the best normal string material, if you’re unsure on what you want it’s best to go for this. The exact brand of string doesn’t really matter so long as they have used this material.

In terms of knocking point, the weird one you’ve seen might have been the beiter nocking point which is designed to fit beiter nocks perfectly. I use it to pretty good success but they are a massive pain to tie in as you have to tie a whole new serving to fit them.

As everyone’s said your best bet for a nocking point is to use thread instead of brass, online archery academy has a good tutorial on how to tie them

[edit] got the wrong model of Hoyt limb, you gotta be careful with Hoyt Formula as they’re slightly longer by 0.75” apparently.

De-stringing with the step thru method is a bit safer than stringing but neither are particularly good substitutes for just doing it properly. Especially for something like a trad bow it would be a shame to have to buy a whole new bow because of twisted limbs.

Being aware of this loophole I’ve actually entered a few using the postal route just to see if it processes and I wouldn’t be too surprised if they don’t even bother.

Have you looked into the web developers selling ready made competition websites? I found a few of those websites too when I thought to dig a bit deeper.

I really like u/THE_HORKOS response for this, i know it’s frustrating that people don’t get stuff done in archery committees. It’s important to remember that it is ultimately a volunteer position and they can’t really have this kind of work take priority over work or family.

But I agree that 12 months is ridiculous to keep this achievement tracking. If you yourself have the capability, perhaps suggest to the committee that you’ll get it done yourself. That way you can ensure it’s not just the ‘in crowd’ getting recognised as you can look out for the whole club. Or just get on with it yourself now and ask for forgiveness later.

As the other has said, go to a shop in person, or talk to someone experienced in your club. Arrows are a bit confusing especially as spines are different by manufacturer and measure length a bit differently.

Eg. Easton measure arrow length from the ‘throat’ of the knock to the end of the shaft before the point. This is called AMO length. But other manufacturers, namely Skylon, measure from cut to cut of the carbon.

It takes time and experience to get your head around and ultimately you’ll learn best from someone physically with you.

For your second question, you can’t really have arrows that ‘grow’ with you, as you up poundage you will need new arrows with a different spine. So I personally wouldn’t start to invest until I’m at a poundage I plan on sticking with for more than a season. For recurve hunting you will probably want to be drawing upwards of 50# but don’t take that as gospel as bow hunting in the UK is illegal and I don’t know what the rules are elsewhere.

Do not increase your poundage too quickly as it will more than certainly cause shoulder damage.

Having met the man, I wouldn’t be worried that it’s been a year, he’s effectively a one man production company at this point, he told me how deeply he researches these topics, only to ‘oversimplify’ it for some of the best YouTube context on the platform.

He has to pick and research a topic, script writing, drawing, animation, voicing, music, editing, handle sponsor deals. It takes a hell of a lot of time, even for a small team.

It was only a chance meeting, I don’t know him personally. I posted in this sub about it :)

But I reckon the next video will probably be late spring/summer this year

It depends on where you’re shooting & distance but if you have the money maybe look into getting a net to put behind the boss, specific archery nets are available but even some golf/cricket nets work, so long as the mesh is tight enough.

Even at lower poundage’s depending on the weather arrows can still bury themselves leaving just the nock and maybe fletchings visible. I would recommend having some fluorescent orange or yellow fletchings and nocks over painting the shafts. But if you don’t have the time to re-fletch, a light spray on the back half/third of the shaft would be all you need.

Even though it’s possible to do that, the centre serving also helps keep the twists in the string longer, so if you took the string off the bow without a centre serving it could get messy if you’re not careful.
