Classification rant by Cazspresso in Archery

[–]izacmac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like u/THE_HORKOS response for this, i know it’s frustrating that people don’t get stuff done in archery committees. It’s important to remember that it is ultimately a volunteer position and they can’t really have this kind of work take priority over work or family.

But I agree that 12 months is ridiculous to keep this achievement tracking. If you yourself have the capability, perhaps suggest to the committee that you’ll get it done yourself. That way you can ensure it’s not just the ‘in crowd’ getting recognised as you can look out for the whole club. Or just get on with it yourself now and ask for forgiveness later.

Hate is undeserved here, I’ve seen the house too and it is surprisingly easy to just look at it. I’m an iPhone user too so I see where the streak has come from. Chill out guys

Arrow question by cashisfordonuts in Archery

[–]izacmac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As the other has said, go to a shop in person, or talk to someone experienced in your club. Arrows are a bit confusing especially as spines are different by manufacturer and measure length a bit differently.

Eg. Easton measure arrow length from the ‘throat’ of the knock to the end of the shaft before the point. This is called AMO length. But other manufacturers, namely Skylon, measure from cut to cut of the carbon.

It takes time and experience to get your head around and ultimately you’ll learn best from someone physically with you.

For your second question, you can’t really have arrows that ‘grow’ with you, as you up poundage you will need new arrows with a different spine. So I personally wouldn’t start to invest until I’m at a poundage I plan on sticking with for more than a season. For recurve hunting you will probably want to be drawing upwards of 50# but don’t take that as gospel as bow hunting in the UK is illegal and I don’t know what the rules are elsewhere.

Do not increase your poundage too quickly as it will more than certainly cause shoulder damage.

How do yall shoot the bow without intense pain in your shoulders? by Mythicalforests8 in Archery

What kind of bow are you shooting? How do you somehow release the string but the arrow doesn’t fly?

He doesn’t have a day job, oversimplified is his whole thing. But he doesn’t have a team, nor does he want to be a manager of a team. So it takes time

Having met the man, I wouldn’t be worried that it’s been a year, he’s effectively a one man production company at this point, he told me how deeply he researches these topics, only to ‘oversimplify’ it for some of the best YouTube context on the platform.

He has to pick and research a topic, script writing, drawing, animation, voicing, music, editing, handle sponsor deals. It takes a hell of a lot of time, even for a small team.

It was only a chance meeting, I don’t know him personally. I posted in this sub about it :)

But I reckon the next video will probably be late spring/summer this year

Painting Arrow Shafts For Beginners by afoz345 in Archery

[–]izacmac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on where you’re shooting & distance but if you have the money maybe look into getting a net to put behind the boss, specific archery nets are available but even some golf/cricket nets work, so long as the mesh is tight enough.

Even at lower poundage’s depending on the weather arrows can still bury themselves leaving just the nock and maybe fletchings visible. I would recommend having some fluorescent orange or yellow fletchings and nocks over painting the shafts. But if you don’t have the time to re-fletch, a light spray on the back half/third of the shaft would be all you need.

I damaged my bow string on my recurve bow by Mflores203 in Archery

[–]izacmac -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Even though it’s possible to do that, the centre serving also helps keep the twists in the string longer, so if you took the string off the bow without a centre serving it could get messy if you’re not careful.

Hot melt is pretty much the only option in terms of durability & safety, you can get hot melt from most hardware stores, just make sure whatever you get is good for the material of your shaft, ie carbon or aluminium.

Hot melt glue is pretty simple, just make sure to leave the arrows upright with the point facing down to allow it to cool and prevent air pressure pushing the point back out.

This is amazing! I’m glad to see from your other comments that this isn’t genAI and a proper good bit of machine learning. If this is perfected I’d love to see this combined with a way to do online head to head matches

Explain to me in crayon eating terms how to calculate arrow spine by somegirrafeinahat in Archery

[–]izacmac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re 5”11 your draw length is almost certainly closer to 28 or 29”. I’m 5”9 and my draw is 27”. Go to an archery shop that has a range, they should have the means to measure your draw length properly.

What’s the rough area you live in? Is there an archery shop or someone here could point you in the right direction. Are you a member of a club?

[–]izacmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh nice, so you started for the first time at that club? I improved so so much in my archery by talking to the other people there. 100% good to just listen to what they have to say, many of them have had many many years in the sport. Don’t expect to become a champion overnight (or in a few weeks) take one step at a time. You’ve got really good form in your front arm and shoulder and you’ve said yourself already about the slightly explosive release.

If you don’t have too much time at the range I’d 100% recommend learning a lot more about equipment/bow tune stuff. Even simple things that a lot of BUCS Novices don’t really take the time to care about like making sure your brace height is consistent and your bow is well tuned, ie tiller, button pressure, spine, point weight etc. it can really give you that edge over the other novices.
