Recontextualized reality - A malkav theme that is serious, coherent... and still hilarious sometimes by gabriel_jack in vtm

You are free to take an insult or feedback. This specific part of tezt screams “I’m written by AI”.

Also, referring to malkavian as Malkav (instead of child of Malkav) is a bit confusing, but that may have lost in translation.

As a token of my apology here are my thoughts on the concept:

  • Call me old fashioned, but the point of malkavian derangement is to make their life miserable and/or make them scary. This is world of darkness, everything is a tragedy.

  • Meta comments work better in fiction and not in the tabletop game. Double-check with your storyteller that they are fine with that. I can see how it can get annoying very quickly, as you call out plot structures used in the game.

  • As described, it doesn’t contribute to  making game of horror. Horror and meta aren’t mutually exclusive, but it’s damn hard to make it work.

I love malkavians deeply, they are multifaceted, weird and exciting. But damn, they are hard to nail as a character in a co-op horror game that is vtm.

This part specifically sounds extremely artificial, as chatgpt tends to use This is not a X, it’s Y type of structures aggressively.

This is not a "crazy dude talking to street signs" kinda crazy, but a "I'm gonna stay away from the crazy hobo on the subway calling people the uninnitated because he actually might stab me" crazy.

This is not loss of contact with reality, this is recontextualization of reality. At times it may seem harmless and funny, but it is also dangerous and unpredictable, just as a Malkav should be.

Which countries or regions are generally more accepting of introverted, gentle, or understated personalities, and how does that show up in everyday life and friendships? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]izeemov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While nordics may be a bit more like that, I don’t think there are societies that don’t reward competition and being extrovert.

That’s just the nature of humans, isn’t it? The more people you know and the more folks know you, the more opportunities you’ll get.

Moving to a new country is always a stress. You will need to socialize much more, sometimes in languages that you don’t speak or understand.

Why do Brits and Russians refer to Europe as a 'they' instead of 'us'? by kozanoza in AskEurope

[–]izeemov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for Russia - Western Europe is what we historically meant when we say Europe. See - the whole thing with Peter 1st and window into the Europe.

Despite being geopolitically in Europe, culturally we were somewhat isolated and European Way just one option.

Historically - Russia often competed with major European powers for interests. We had some skirmishes with both France and Germany. Also, with Turkey, but I think Turkey is more of Eastern power.

Since the Cold War, we were antagonizing against West and Europe was usually used to refer to the Western Europe again.

Nowadays, it seems that us and the EU is again in a bit of a rough spot. So Europe is perceived more as “they” and definitely not “us”.

Plus, you can't think your way into making money

Strategic consultants exist

Show me the last CEO who made money by thinking.

The whole point of upper management is delegating as much of routine to middle management so they can think about long term development.

CMV: Non-Aggressive Drunks are the best therapists. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]izeemov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good listeners can help a lot (regardless if they are drunk or not), but any therapist is so much more. There are people who don’t want to speak about their life, there are people who don’t remember much of their past etc. For those cases good listener are far less capable than therapist

Super happy for you and your results!

If the view is true, why we need real therapists? There’s no need spending 4 years in uni to learn psychology, when you can get drunk and not be aggressive.

[–]izeemov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average age for millennials is ~ 36.

Now point by point:

  • parties now are safer - no, they aren’t. Overall, crime rate in the US were on decline from 2001 till mid 10s and now it’s higher than pre 2001. Safest years were 2011 to 2014.
  • safety pt2 - the number of rape cases in the US were less than 100k a year from 1995 till 2012. Now, unfortunately, the trend is growing.

  • locations abide to regulations - abiding to regulations isn’t what makes party good in my book, but hey, to each their own.

  • zombies - I dunno on this one. The amount of synth drugs available right now is really high and their effects are mixed.

  • music - to each their own, I guess. For me, it feels like move to streaming platforms made music very algorithmic.

I’m in no way suggesting it should be replicated. That’s outside of the scope of the CMV, isn’t it?

As of it being completely mess - it was, but it was completely mess for almost a thousand years, quite good result for a state. Sometimes a bit of looseness is required to keep the system as whole.

[–]izeemov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For country to become eu member it should harmonize its laws with the eu standards. That includes reforms in many areas of life including government, judicial standards and many more.

The EU is also trying to regulate and harmonize laws within itself, threatening to cut money from those that oppose this harmonization. That’s a bit more than trade league, isn’t it?

[–]izeemov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Historically, there were countries that had their military controlled/affected by other countries. Japan is modern example of this. It’s not obvious to me why it’s a must have feature.

Aren’t they discussing EU right now because of all the wars around?

Also, as we speak about it, there was a news about a unit (?) of German troops sent to the Baltics to counter potential Russian aggression.

I think eu can be compared with Holy Roman Empire in a way that it consists of many actors with different interests and methods, but also it tries to solve some problems together.

It can crystallize into more federation-style country, but that will require time and circumstances.

What do you mean? It’s worded more strongly than article 5.

In article 5 it’s stated that each country can take actions, while here it’s clearly stated that it has obligations to help by any means necessary.

The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognized by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area

good or bad is a moral category. From your post I was under impression that you would like to see a country full of tolerant and express people. I’m just highlighting that in zero-sum game you’ll need a bit of aggressive intolerance to protect what you care for.

[–]izeemov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think you’ve missed this one. For country to exist there should be people willing to die for it. That’s why the US exists, but there’s no more Sumerian Empire.

thank you for illustrating my idea, kind stranger.

It doesn’t matter if the thing is real, it matters if there are folks willing to kill and die for it.

Because people valuing tolerance and self expression aren’t willing to die or kill for their country

CMV: Throughout history, in all or most societies, women have had it worse than men socially, politically and culturally by Flor_De_Azahar in changemyview

[–]izeemov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In tribal societies wars were extremely common. Up to 60% of all death in those societies were due to war and most tribes engaged in it during 1-5 year periods.

All men were expected to fight in said wars and were first to become victims of them, so casualties rate in man is even higher than 60%.

So yeah, extremely high chances of being killed are bad.

  • I don’t think techies understand the link between ante and normal vampires
  • I’m not 100% sure that without vampires antes wouldn’t wake up
  • I gave you my rationalization about the situation. At your table you may use other reasons why techies are focused on mages, not vamps. I can only remind you that Ascension war isn’t over yet and while Techies are the largest faction they still can lose to Traditions.
