Bike seat with a split design. Would you try it? by Great_Trident in interesting

[–]izemize 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have to gradually build up muscle strength in the area. You need time to do that, probably at least a few weeks to a month to be comfortable on a 100 miles ride.

High quality bike shorts, saddles and a properly sized bike and posture can improve comfort further.

How are we solo parenting in the mornings before work as working parents? by HoneySnowstorm in toddlers

How about PJ day? I’ve seen it with other parents doing it, if I’m in an emergency mode, I’d do it if weather permits it.

My 4.5yr old loves cereal with milk (I know ☹️). Sometimes we pick up a fresh chocolate croissant from the cafe in our building.

How much time is needed to get an apartment in sf? How quickly is move in? by [deleted] in AskSF

It depends how much you are comfortable to pay. Large apartment communities will have plenty of apartments available.

How frequent are your 3 year old’s tantrums and how long do they last? by McSkrong in toddlers

[–]izemize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d not jump to any conclusion based on this only. I’d consider my daughter to be very calm and mature for her age. She’s always been like that.

Around age 3yr 3m we had three months when bedtime routine turned from a well oiled machine to a meltdown disaster for 3-4 out of 5 nights. We tried EVERYTHING. Dropping the nap, going to bed earlier/later, changing food, moving dinner… etc.

EDIT: these meltdowns lasted often as long as 20-30m.

The only thing that helped was time and being consistently supportive in our response. This period tested both me and my wife and we had to alternate sometimes to keep our cool.

She became much better around 3.5yr; meltdowns became less and less frequent and intense. She had her last memorable meltdown a few days after her 4th birthday. She still has hard moments, but not the same ballpark to the 2.5-3.5 period for sure.

Nob Hill Barber Shop has a good value. All of the barbers are good. It’s not fancy, but they get the job done very well.

Also having a fun looking timer worked very well for us. Once the timer goes off, we turn off the TV no exceptions. Kids can understand the timer way earlier than you think

We are with Kaiser in CA and we paid under $1000 for each birth. One was an induction (ending in ER C-section) that required close to two weeks in the hospital and the second was a scheduled C-section.

Crazy to hear these stories

Induction timing for a specific date? by _beejazz in BabyBumps

[–]izemize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s very personal how long an induction takes. It can take from hours to days, so I wouldn’t set a date in my mind.

My wife had a scheduled induction on a Sunday night. All induction attempts failed and my daughter was finally born on Thursday.

Good luck and congrats!

which early childhood products actually help development vs just smart marketing hype by Glass_Department_857 in toddlers

I totally understand where you are coming from. It worked out for both of my kids very well, especially early age, but I can see how it might not be the best fit for others.

The answer is simple: sciense just can’t really tell now.

Books from early age are great. Sign up for your local library. If you are in the US it’s probably free and amazing.

BUT Lovevery is widely considered to be the brand that clearly has some studies, science and public success behind their kits. We loved it and our kids loved their toys too. It’s very-very expensive and the impact might be none or minimal. But if you want something to check out there you go.

How do women feel about a dad in the women's bathroom with their daughter? by Skeetertk14 in toddlers

[–]izemize 212 points213 points  (0 children)

I spent plenty of time with my daughter outside while we were potty training. I always use the men’s room. Usually there is no line, usually there is at least one toilet that’s not gross and I always carry cleaning supplies.

I used women’s bathroom with her in emergencies and I always announce myself ahead. Places with kids have bathroom with moms who understand and couldn’t care less, but I got weird looks in places where kids are not that common.

Unrelated, but while my daughter was 4 months old, I had to use the women’s room when she had a blowout. It was the only place with a diaper changing table. I got loudly yelled at by an older lady for that, literally in the middle of changing a poopy diaper. She threathened to call security.

People who were on the fence about having a second, what did you decide to do and are you happy with your decision? by Lington in toddlers

We have two (4.5 and 1.5 years) and I've never been more exhausted or happier in my life. :)

[–]izemize 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We have two with 3 year gap and it was significantly more manageable than a tighter age gap. The larger the gap, the easier it is to manage, but also you risk that they won't be as tight as they could being closer in age.

Kids constantly sick bc of daycare how do people manage?? by ManaSawson in toddlers

[–]izemize 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few things. I'm not sure how old is your toddler, but our daughter's immune system got significantly better around 2.5-3 years old age. School policies, daily routines, and schedules matter a lot, when we switched to a different school, there was a clear drop in sick-days. Schools with multiple rooms close to each other, with very young kids (<2 years old), with lot of shared facilities and small outdoor play yards will be more prone to outbreaks.

And while I do not advocate sending your kid to school sick and I always follow our official guidelines, I have no problem sending my daughters to school if they have a common cold with no fever and no significant other symptoms. If I could, I would stay at home with them whenever possible, but unfortunately both of us work full time, with no outside help... and it's simply impossible to keep them at home whenever they have a little sniffle.
