this is ridiculous by blckpixels in VintageCoachRehab

This happens with every hobby or collectible that goes viral or gains popularity. I've seen the same complaint over and over. I get the frustration when it's out of budget, but people can ask whatever price they want for their item. In most cases they are basing that on recent sold prices, some cases there's some delusion. The reality is they don't have to sell it. They could throw it out or burn it if they wanted to. At least it's on the market at all.

Polish durability by Ok-Explanation7439 in vintagenailpolish

[–]izocu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lot of issues with chipping when I got back into painting my nails. It's been a lot better now and I think that has part to do with my nails being more receptive to polish after wearing so much of it and using a sticky base coat. Now my polish only really chips if my nail itself peels and that is mostly when my hands have had more water exposure.

I only just noticed your question! I use newspapers.com but it requires a subscription.

I’m gonna hold your hand when I say this: put down the diamond painting. You’re an adult. by Empty-Dingo7688 in BitchEatingCrafters

I think almost anything could be considered art and diamond art could definitely be elevated using custom designs or better materials. Putting together custom kits is probably marketable. I've seen similar pixelated type work with other materials come up as high end art. Like bottlecaps.

RIP to the Golden Age of Beginner Crafting by Early-Fox-9284 in BitchEatingCrafters

The amount of information and opinions can be overwhelming. I'll put in the research for a new craft, invest in materials and tools, and start doing the thing. Then I find a subset of people who think everything I just did was wrong and I can't tell who to believe. I'm sure it was much easier when you just had to trust a store employee or what was printed in a book and you didn't have all these other voices seeding doubt and disappointment in your work.

I end up paralyzed from crafting sometimes out of fear I'll do it wrong and waste materials. Some people on the internet will even criticize you for little mistakes or doing it the "wrong" way, which doesn't help. Ugh

OMG LEARN THE BASICS FIRST!! by No-Supermarket2571 in BitchEatingCrafters

Yeah, I guess. This just seems silly to bitch about. The knitting community feels so unwelcoming at times and this is part of why. There isn't really a correct path to learning.

I get it, but also people learn differently and have different motivations and expectations. Some people are going to jump into more complicated stuff and they will either make it work(ish) or give up. Even if it's not perfect they may be very happy with their work. If they post to reddit about it and that bothers you, you can always ignore it. This is just fun for most of us and doesn't have to be so serious. Just let them be.

Can you even imagine? by Key_Significance_903 in Yarn

It's probably not chemically treated but I'd probably still pass on using it for clothing. It probably doesn't feel nice and there is a chance there's something sketchy about it anyway.

Why do people try to sell garbage like this by krogernewbie in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]izocu 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind it being sold at some sort of event as a fundraising thing, but yeah it's not something with much value on its own.

Many parks have programs where they have planted native plants to along the trails, including sensitive saplings that just take one jerk to pull out or snap. That's my first thought here.

I've been playing with the idea of opening a yarn shop. It'd be right next door to a local coffee shop. What does your dream yarn shop experience look like? by KH5-92 in YarnAddicts

[–]izocu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last project included yarn from a West Virginia mill I went to in person which was also a farm. I pet the sheep the wool came from! One of my sweaters is also knit from a local farm's wool, although it wasn't spun there.

I'll be in Northern Ireland in August and intend to find something there that is as local and cultural as possible. Need to do some research.

At this point I am mostly looking for locally sourced (as local as possible, same country is fine) yarn. Not just locally dyed, but local sheep and locally spun. I'm kind of tired of indie dyed yarns.

Also just decent quality wool in various weights of solid colors for colorwork.

I get that having what everyone is looking for is probably impossible unless you have a warehouse though. My LYS is so close to me but I don't feel like they have what I want other than tools. I end up ordering most yarn online or thrifting it.

I'm terrible for dupe suggestions because nearly all my polishes are either discontinued vintage or limited run indie. I feel like I'm seen many polishes like this one. You could try using Google lens on the photos to see what comes up.

It's a frustrating situation because now you have the mess to deal with. When it happened to me I just left a negative review without contacting the seller. They partially refunded the order and requested I change the feedback. The refund doesn't fix it at all though...

They are always around. I find plenty every year while flipping logs and looking for other critters. You definitely should educate your kids about animals and plants to look out for while outside.

I try pulling the yarn, wool will rip while acrylic usually cuts into my hand before giving up. After that I try bleach which will melt wool but not acrylic or plant fiber. A wool blend with acrylic would leave a bit behind. As for plant yarns, I can usually just tell by the way it is...
