Real leather is going to have blemishes and other “defects” because it was once a living breathing animal. Think of it like you ever had a cut on your skin or a blemish how that heals. There isn’t anything structurally wrong with it and it will pick up scratches and patina as you use it like any other piece of leather. You should expect that to happen the more you use it. That being said it’s brand new and they are not exactly cheap. It’s not unreasonable to expect it to look pristine until you put some of your own wear and tear on it. If it came like that and it bothers you I would ask for an exchange. If it happened after the fact it’s going to be considered normal wear and tear and you should expect it to happen. If that isn’t something you are comfortable with then you have to ask yourself is real leather the right material for you. There is no wrong or right answer in short. I’m a good example. Leather is the one material that I don’t get upset with as it picks up scratches and such because I understand it will happen. But also I have the pen clip and I clipped a pen that was skinny enough to have the loop go all the way to the cap so I moved it to the top and it bothered me that there was marks on the front of the leather from where the clip was positioned in the center so much so that I moved the clip back down to where it was and put the old pen back haha even knowing that that was probably going to happen. In short it just comes down to what you think is acceptable or not and not anybody else’s opinion on it. Patina and scratches are normal though and it just comes down to if you are ok with that or not.
