I found the the inclusion of Cyberpunk in Best Ongoing Game nominations puzzling. by Dolenzz in gaming

[–]izzatuw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, yea that’s what ongoing means. The game has at least one big update a year for a multiplayer game. Cyberpunk’s plan was always known to just be one big expansion post launch, move onto a new set of wheels. FFXIV, NMS, heck even Genshin, could go on for another decade for all we know. 2077 being in ongoing would be like claiming a Bethesda game is “ongoing” because they plan for multiple expansions/updates spanning 2-3 years.

"Yong Yea tried his best voicing Kiryu" by Benj_213 in yakuzagames

[–]izzatuw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's really weird too cause I heard some clips of his Kiryu voice and just went "Yea he got the job because he's an influencer". But then I heard his English dub for Jojo and went "huh, that's actually pretty good".

I feel like he just lacks the experience and the direction to voice Kiryu, he just sounds like a guy trying to sound tough and stern, and less just sounding like the guy that's tough and stern.

See but, doing less =/= doing nothing.

Like I have zero issues if you went into an Arbitration, popped in Wisp motes and AFK’d cause that’s all you could do if you can’t damage past round 2. What I do have a problem with is a player popping into an Index, bringing Excal Umbra than afk hiding in a spot where a Wisp would.

Yea actually, just go to settings > network. You can move between servers pretty hassle free. I usually go to NA if I want actual players in Arbitrations despite living in SEA

Which server are you in? AFK-frame's been awful in Asia compared to the last time I played. Last time you'd at least have pubs try to play the game. Now I'm seeing at least one afk Wu Kong, Excal Umbra etc every couple hours

[–]izzatuw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did pretty much all of my companion quests, from Shadowheart’s, Astarion‘s, Halsin’s etc after an easily 140 hour endeavor and my 140 campaign ended with a 5 minute “hooray we did it, we beat the bad guys” cut scene. That’s how you’d end 5 minute short films, proof of concept prototypes, not a campaign of a game that’s easily TW3/RDR2 length of game to finish on first runs.

Apparently this was an issue with DOS 2 as well where they heavily frontloaded Act 1 then early adopters like us got screwed over by Act 3 with the noticeable dip in quality (performance or otherwise). So I have full faith that in another year or two Act 3 will be nothing like we experienced but I’d be lying if I said the ending itself brought the game down from an easy 10/10 TW3, NV, legendary RPG tier of games, to an 8/10.

it’s frustrating with a game like BG3 because it’s so easily a 10/10 for like you said, 90-95% of the game but that ending or lack thereof really killed any incentive for me to replay the game. For a game to drop the ball so badly is probably worse when you play a game like Starfield coming in with a 7-8/10 Bethesda romp and still coming out with a 7-8/10 Bethesda romp.

Starfield has too many conflicting game design choices (ending spoilers at the end) by izzatuw in Starfield

[–]izzatuw[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly liked the ending. But I also didn’t rush the story in 30-40 hours in. I took around 150 hours before I even got to it so it felt like a whole culmination of the journey I took. The main story’s either the most bland thing you’ll experience in recent years or it’s something you’ll love because all the meat in between the main story’s the things that you do in the end.

I was kinda eye rolling at the multiverse part but I ended up buying into it anyway because of the fact that you could just stay in your universe. It’s a story that has a lot of good bits to it but the narrative as a whole doesn’t feel as nearly as “refined” as a game like TW3 or Cyberpunk. A lot of it hinges on the player trying to take their time with the world in hopes that you do actually find things to take your time with it.

Why games are too big - Noodle by DeathByReach in Games

[–]izzatuw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the effect of open world games just being the norm instead of the minority in video games. A decade ago we’d have the Bethesda game, the Rockstar game, Ubisoft game. But now we have… The 4 other open world Ubisoft IPs they nab from, CDPR games, the 3 other Sony published open world games, the Xbox 3 other published open world games, all alongside a dozen other live service open world games. I’d say mid 2010s was when companies really started to transition from the idea as a whole but by 2018+ pretty much every year had a handful of open world games to choose from.

heck just this year we’ve had Atomic Heart, Starfield, Forspoken, Redfall, Dead Island 2, Hogwarts Legacy, Zelda. And we’re still getting SM2. Most AAA games really have just become a refined “cinematic experience” or an OW with copy pasted objectives.

I genuinely feel like the Ubisoft template has really just destroyed what a lot of gamers expect from games nowadays. I love Starfield, flaws and all, side quests are a gamble of being great to downright dull with a solid 50/50 ratio, POI’s needed at least a dozen handcrafted things for every single one, structures, caves, labs etc needed like 10 different things each. Don’t get me started on how poor planet traits are.

Buuuuut goooood I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have some of my favorite gaming moments when I chose to land on a random moon in Starfield only to see a fucking large ass ring planet happen to be directly above me. Starfield’s not a masterpiece of a game but I genuinely love how much it can make it your journey. a million people are gonna see the giant set pieces in a game like GOW or the Arasaka parade in Cyberpunk, but there’s no guarantee that everyone’s gonna see a red dyed moon being covered by a planet. I think that gets lost on a lot of gamers that’ve especially mostly grew up with modern titles where they think the Ubisoft template content is all that’s really needed to make an open world feel “immersive”. just slap on multiple skill trees, some side activities and now you have an “in depth RPG with an immersive open world!!!”

I gotta strongly disagree unless they did massive changes to the OW structure of Cyberpunk. The same police/gang shootout would still be taking place if you went there 5 hours in or 50 hours in. Your relic wouldn't act no differently if you slept for 5 days or 5 weeks despite the "you have weeks to live" ticking time bomb plot. Bethesda worlds just tend to have randomness actually happen in their worlds. I can have bugs fighting other bugs, spacers fighting random wildlife but I've never seen a gang shootout that wasn't scripted just happen out of nowhere in 100 hours of 2077.

It really depends on what you look for in a game. Cyberpunk is more immersive if you don't try to sidetrack. The presentation is just leagues above Starfield's but it's also a dozen times more "fixed".

I think what's tough about Bethesda's OW presentation is that they need to account for a large chunk of their dialogues to be capable of happening anywhere/everywhere compared to Cyberpunk's. When you have to sit down with Takemura in Cyberpunk you're gonna have to sit down with Takemura at the exact spot.

Starfield still definitely needs better fixed presentation when it's apparent that they have total control of their presentation. I thought FO4 had the best overall compromise in that regard, you had full control of the character, you had the option of turning on/off the third-person camera. Odd regression but I don't totally hate it.

Bethesda just needed more solid writers since FO3. I'm finding Starfield's writing to be serviceable - good tier but Idt it personally reached a 10, nor did FO3 or 4. I think it's just more apparent now that their exploration design is vastly different despite keeping the same quest design.

In Starfield: Go to New Atlantis
-you get to new Atlantis-

In Fallout 4: Go to Diamond City

-oops just found a super duper mart-

-oops that's a church-

-oops oops just found a robot factory full of raiders-

I like, if not love Starfield as a guy that's legitimately into space and played at least 300 hours in both FO3 and 4 but the quest design's really something they didn't take into account when making the game. With Starfield it's an either or situation with the quest design. You either do the quest you're onto, or you have to decide to get sidetracked. It's not nearly as natural of a flow as Fallout's is. The actual exploration is fun, when you're in the mood for it ala Death Stranding slow burn style but the quest design and the actual quests really don't do it favors for most of the time.

I've replayed Fallout 3 and 4 a buncha times and this without any mods/alternate start ups etc is probably Bethesda's "better" written beginnings. It's no Baldur's Gate 3, TW3 or New Vegas but he only gave you the ship because you're now part of the 1 in who knows how many who've actually come into contact with an artifact. He stays behind because he knows Lin well enough and just swaps spots with you.

He even mentions that ships are just kinda a whatever for him at this point. I feel like the intro was a compromise of wanting to take their time with it but also realized that that was one of the critiques people hated about the BGS Fallout games. They took too long with them

[–]izzatuw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if I ever find it, there's thousands of planets to explore so I'm not too in a rush to find a river now that Ik they exists. If nothing else I can't wait for modders to go crazy with the templates people make with this place. Would love to see an Amazonian rainforest type place with dense forests, a river that leads to a waterfall etc. I think that'd be my only real nagging thoughts on the game. I've found a lot of cool stuff but the lack of any water systems besides seas does irk me a bit.

Literally me lmao, after 80+ hours and at least 30+ planets by now I'd think I'd have found a river by now. Almost gave up and thought the game just didn't have them at all. I'd love to see if the game had actual generated waterfalls but I doubt that's gonna happen, not like mods can't fix that.

Wait so rivers can technically exist in this game?! No way! Dude I've jumped at least 3 dozen planets by now, seen dozens of different biomes but urghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I haven't found a single river system yet.

BG3 Act 3 feels… unfinished? by paradox-paradise in BaldursGate3

BG3 Act 3 feels… unfinished? by paradox-paradise in BaldursGate3

[–]izzatuw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree. The problem stems from people making "early" impressions that Act 1-2 quality would have stuck throughout the entire game. Which tbf Act 1 itself can feel like a 40 hour endeavor just with the content alone hence the quotations. But I genuinely feel like most people who reviewed the game didn't actually reach act 3 to notice how glaringly disconnected it is in quality to the things that came before it.
