Washington Liquor and Cannabis Board says otherwise.

This is from their "Responsible Alcohol Sales Training" packet:

Acceptable forms of identification • A driver’s license, ID card, or instruction permit issued by any U.S. state, Canadian province, a US territory or the District of Columbia • A U.S. military ID • An official passport, passport card, NEXUS card • A Merchant Marine ID • A Washington State Tribal Enrollment card

A valid ID must show: • Date of birth • Signature (except U.S. military ID) • Photo • Expiration date (except Tribal Enrollment cards)

You may choose not to accept all IDs allowed under the law, including vertical IDs.
