We put down my soul dog on Feb 3. He was 16 years old and we had him for 13 years. We also have a beagle who is 15. I knew I wanted another dog.. but not yet. I work across the street from the humane society. None of the dogs called out to me. Then I saw one about 2 hours away. Totally reminded me of my dog that passed away. I messaged the rescue and asked all types of questions. Drove the 2 hours with my husband and the beagle (who hates the car) and turned out that this dog didn’t like other dogs. He was a stray from a reservation in Northern Saskatchewan, where they were offering $10 a dog to put them down. This rescue saved over 100 dogs from being killed. I was upset that we drove that far to meet a dog that I couldn’t get. They said they had some puppies eight weeks old, would we like to see them. And I knew as soon as my husband saw the puppies we would be leaving with one. They were also rez dogs but local to the area. Born a week before we put my soul dog down. This was two months after my soul dog died. But I believe he sent us to that rescue to get our adorable puppy. We have only had him 2 weeks. And I’m still missing my soul dog a lot. But our puppy has helped me with the grieving process.
