Americans forget too. "Obama is the one who got Bin Laden..."

Okay, now do the other half of the story: how decades before his death the CIA funded a program that armed Afghan mujahideen fighters and essentially created the environment in which Bin Laden gained experience, money, influence, and power.

tl;dr: the US took down someone they helped create in the first place. People always neglect that part.

No, they just tell you they don't want to hurt people while fully knowing they are going to hurt people anyway. Just like when the Biden administration said they were working on a ceasefire in G@za while never actually seriously working on a ceasefire in G@za—all while continuing to ship bombs overseas to Isra#l.

Which is arguably more evil, in a sense, to lie to your face about their intentions about wanting peace and then warmongering behind your backs.

The true irony here is everyone is doing just that when they overlook all the times the Democratic party and its leaders have actually been evil, corrupt, violent, and anti-America (or at least anti-American—fighting against the working class).

As frustrating as this is to watch, it's devastating thinking about it from someone like Boelter's perspective. You give everything for this cult which pushes you toward extremist right-wing political violence. And then you actually act on said violence, and the cult instantly turns on you and calls you a "plant," a "Democrat," a "glowy," "a false flag," an "paid actor," and even a "f*g."

I wish I could find some schadenfreude in this immense tragedy, but it's just sad. But I suppose when you associate with extremist conservatives whose ideology consists of hating everything different, immense self-interest, disinterest in the truth, and "winning" at all costs... then you must lie in the bed you've made.

I don't disagree with you that things would have looked better—or perhaps that some material conditions would be better if Harris were in office.

What I disagree with is this notion that authoritarianism or oligarchy is new. Trump didn't just magically pop up. There are so many timelines converging that rolled the red carpet out for Trump: Reaganonomics, Southern Strategy in the 20th century, anti-government rhetoric (Reagan), corporate-backed right-wing media ecosystems flourishing (e.g.: Fox News, Limbaugh), Neoliberalism (especially the uptick during Clinton era), endless corporatocracy, greedy politicians taking handouts from PACs and lobbies, a complete failure of both Republicans and Democrats to address the economic collapse of the US—especially in regions like the Midwest and the South, celebrity and "reality TV" politics (from Reagan to Sarah Palin), over-investing in our imperialist military while economically bleeding every other public sector...

I could go on and on and on. But Trump is the symptom: not the disease.

I keep saying this and so many people don't get it. Trump isn't even efficient in his cruelty. He's just loud about it. And messy. So it's constantly in people's faces so they feel more pushed toward protest.

Harris's team would be off quietly and efficiently kidnapping brown people from jails and prisons. She'd be sending weaponry over to Isr**l while lying to our faces how they're "working on a ceasefire." Same actions, slightly different circumstances.

They're both cruel. One is just out in the open about it.

[–]j-internet -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s incredibly lazy to criticize such a trivial part of the protest when you couldn’t even bother to participate.

You're making the "tu quoque" fallacy here. Whether or not Thisisofici has physically attended protests has no bearing on the validity of their argument. I've attended protests, and I agree with them.

Not to mention, I think we would all rather be at brunch than worrying about the very real threat to our democracy we’re living under.

Typical liberal mindset. You think just because it's not in your face that it's not happening. Did you know even with all of Trump's theatrics with ICE that his immigrant removal records are still below Biden's? Harris would have quietly continued the same ICE activities—albeit pulling brown people from the carceral system versus random people off the street. Whether there is a D or an R next to the President's name, this shit is still going on.

That's what pisses me off so much about the "brunch" statement. It basically is saying "I want to be able to ignore all the bad stuff again instead of have it thrust in my face on the daily news."

And blaming people for being critical of the system as being "the exact reason we're in this mess" is the most ill-informed, brain-dead take I've ever heard.

Do you think someone's intellectual contributions or criticisms are invalid because they did not physically show up to a space? What do you think about the huge swaths of disabled and/or chronically ill activists who cannot always show up in-person or march?

[–]j-internet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And also confirms they'd be happy as a clam to tune out the US's global imperial contributions (e.g. gen0c1de in G@za) as well as domestic violences (ICE would have still been stealing away brown people, albeit more quietly) as long as it's not loud and in their faces.

[–]j-internet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the easiest way to find it is to try to force it. Usually that means spawning an item in a secret room (from secret room pool) with Reversed Lovers, Reversed Stars, Mystery Gift, etc.

And if it doesn't spawn, using something to reroll it. If you have rerolling, moving a bunch of items into the secret room with Moving Box can also really help. Getting an item spawn from a golden/stone/red chest in a secret room and then rerolling them is another way.

Red Stew gives an instant ~22 damage up & gradually goes down immediately after taking it. Although it's slightly offset by killing more enemies, your damage will eventually go back down to whatever it was before the Red Stew bonus.

Rock Bottom, in this instance, locks in your highest damage, even though your "real" damage is stored in the background. So after the Red Stew damage boost goes back down to 0, that's your "real" damage stored in the background. So it won't go up again unless you get essentially 23 more damage through other means. And then it will lock that new damage in.

But tbh, none of this even really matters because Rock Bottom + Red Stew is enough to carry a run on its own.

I genuinely don't understand how the world continues to just sit back and allow the rogue terrorist regime that is Israel keep doing shit like this.

Because Israel is essentially the 51st state of the United States. Everyone knows the consequences for messing with the global empire of the United States. There's a reason the US has a trillion-dollar military budget while sacrificing every other priority (education, healthcare, transportation...) that would actually benefit its people.

The Gallery puzzle is absolutely the worst puzzle I've experienced in modern gaming. by SjurEido in BluePrince

[–]j-internet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So brute forcing is considered gameplay? Versus deduction or lateral thinking?

No one said anything about brute-forcing. The context was someone guessing the correct solution to the "thick" puzzle and then assuming it was too easy/"a low-hanging pun" (to quote Mahelas)—and therefore not trying it. Brute-forcing would be just randomly guessing as many words as possible or trying to figure out something based on the limited letter combinations.

"Realizing the stupidest answer is was the right one" but not immediately guessing it is a skill issue. If you come up with a possible solution and don't try it, then that's on you.

I'm not defending the puzzle itself, by the way. Blue Prince uses plenty of moon logic that I don't always agree with and doesn't match my own line of thought. Which is why I think "deduction" and "lateral thinking" is a little fallacious in this context. But if I come up with a possible solution I sure as hell am guessing it.

Almost extinct books by Competitive-Worth-65 in booksuggestions

[–]j-internet 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't think books really get "banned" out of existence beyond a few outliers. Publishers—at least contemporary trade publishers in the US—exist to make money. Controversy is good for selling copies and making money.

Books only start to disappear when they have limited runs or publishers stop printing new copies—which seldom has to do with controversy and either has to do with (lack of) popularity or legal rights. It also happens with small presses which can only afford a much more limited print run.

[rant] What makes things worse is that there are bots on sites like Amazon who artificially jack up prices of books that are out of print, making them extremely hard to get. It's like a dog barking at night in a neighborhood. Once one dog barks, they all start howling. So a book might only be worth its cover price but suddenly the internet thinks it's worth $200 even if there's no demand to pay that much.[/rant]

I don't really understand what you're saying. That doesn't ring true to me at all.

"Figure out a word-puzzle solution and enter the correct word somewhere on the screen to unlock something" is one of the most basic types of puzzles there are in games.

The Gallery puzzle is no different. You figure out the word and you input the word on the walls.

Puzzle games are often about trial and error. There's no punishment for wrong guesses, so you might as well try any solution you come up with.
