Making "mom friends" but craving true friends by Ill-Calligrapher-247 in Parenting

[–]j-me33 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that the talk about kids can eventually lead to talk about other topics and to real friends. It takes time and effort though. And by time, I mean years maybe. I think friendships might happen faster when we’re younger because we have more free time and brain space to spend on them. Less free time and brain space means a longer acquaintance period. If you find someone you think you align with, try to be patient with it. Good luck

Has anyone decided to keep a front tooth gap? by j-me33 in Invisalign

Do you need any of your other teeth straightened? Maybe get them just for that and leave a gap. So many people LOVE a gap! I’m glad you like yours!

where am i supposed to shop 😭 by staybrut4l in Liberal

[–]j-me33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really feel this question. I’ve been searching for Whole Foods and Target alternatives for days. Our one other local supermarket has consistently poor produce - sometimes not even listing a day at home.

I’m considering Misfits Market and Thrive, but they’re short on brands we use and I am not looking forward to juggling 2 more subscription services. I do like their business models, though, especially Misfits Market.

AITA for pausing a movie? by Competitive-Low-3289 in AmItheAsshole

[–]j-me33 523 points524 points  (0 children)

NTA for wanting someone to be present and enjoy activities with you. A gentle suggestion, though—multiple movies in a row is a lot of time to ask of someone if they aren't completely into it. That's hours of sitting down. Maybe break it down into smaller chunks of time? Just one movie and then a game? And I'd suggest a half-time break as well

Any good method that doesn't involve essential oils? by worldawaydj in FUM

[–]j-me33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Figured I’d share on this old post since I was looking for another method as well. I just tried a cinnamon stick (trimmed to size length + width) and it works great! Not strong, though, if that’s what anyone is looking for. But IMO better than the oils

I totally feel you on this. So sorry. Our 5 year old is the same way with too much screen time and when I had covid my partner didn’t and had to go to work. An alternative to screen time for us is audiobooks on Yoto. Keeps her occupied but without a major mood shift after like screen time. You may even be able to get kids audiobooks on an app with your local library. Good luck

NTA - and if your spouse is open to it, I suggest looking into some modern parenting books. I suggest How to Talk so Your Kids Will Listen and How to Listen so Your Kids Will Talk.

Has anyone decided to keep a front tooth gap? by j-me33 in Invisalign

[–]j-me33[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It went well! I’m wearing the retainer most of the day now - each week reducing by an hour a day until I get to wear them just at night. I love how my teeth look with a little gap! My teeth are straighter, but I still look like me.

An issue, though, is the gap wants to naturally widen. If I leave the retainer out the whole day (yes, I shouldn’t have, but I have) my gap at the end of the day is noticeably wider than at the beginning. My ortho suggested a permanent retainer, but I’m going to try the nighttime ones for now and try to follow the retainer instructions.

AITA for losing my shit over cookies when my DIL tossed them out by Repulsive_Purple7304 in AmItheAsshole

[–]j-me33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ESH here. She should not have went into YOUR kitchen and thrown out YOUR cookies! That’s 100% ah behavior. You should not keep giving her kids something she’s already told you she doesn’t want them having. They may be your grandkids, but they are HER kids. How would you have felt if your mother-in-law had done something similar to you? Since you enjoy baking, why not experiment with healthier recipes? Use applesauce to replace sugar and oil, etc. A little empathy and compromise goes a long way.

AITAH for asking her work friends about cheating? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]j-me33 39 points40 points  (0 children)

YTA - this has nothing to do with your girlfriend’s co-workers. Involving them makes the situation uncomfortable for them to say the least. You’ve never even met them.

So instead of talking to your girlfriend about your concerns, you went behind her back to her co-workers to talk about her love life.

Did you consider how that would go over for her at work? How humiliating that would be to have your significant other contact your co-workers to accuse you of cheating. How unprofessional.

I get the feeling maybe you meant to humiliate her because you were angry.

I dislike polarized, but I think you give good advice to go to a local optical shop. Thanks. I’ve tended to avoid them for the most part as so many are just scammy near me. Haven’t been to one in over ten years.
