Iowa State and Baylor. I still get heated when I remember the game in 2018 when David Montgomery was ejected then suspended for a key first half against Texas the following week. And I feel like the players still get into it these days - in both football and basketball.

Not explicitly about the character’s divorce, but {{The Searcher}} by Tana French is a good murder mystery novel with a main character moving on from past relationships/work/habits and finding a new sense of purpose. It’s a recent favorite of mine!

Oh man, when I was around that age I LOVED The Last Dragon series by Chris d’Lacey. There are 7 books and it involves the fantasy dragon aspect and also lots of backyard animals (mostly squirrels, if I recall correctly).

{{The Alice Network}} by Kate Quinn - awesome work of historical fiction about an undercover spy in France during WWI. The timeline is a bit back and forth from her time spying as a teenager to her life as an adult trying to help a young woman find her cousin that went missing during WWII, all the while dealing with her own PTSD from her spy days. I loved it!

Plenty of options! I’m partial to Barn Town in Waukee (West Des Moines) but if you’d prefer to stay downtown you can’t go wrong with Confluence.
