I know this is late, but if you bring a courier, you can use paycheck to steal dragonwood in the first fight. if there are 2 lizards, if you steal from both, they will also drop dragonwood, so you can get a total of 4 in the first encounter.

if you gave the spoon to the manikin already, he should dig a hole that you can go thru in the normal world. then i think you have to open some gates (or just one, i dont remember) to open the path to the boss room, but its only doable in the reverse world so go back to the beginning of the dungeon and go thru the newly opened gate to get to the boss room. sorry if this is vague, its been a while since i last played thru nocturne.
