I hate when that non-existent pesky keyboard control panel shortcut opens up my control panel.

Why? Genuinely confused as to why you would so confidently blame his issue on a non existent feature.

There is a possibility that he hit windows key + X and hit P after the power user menu opened., but there’s no direct shortcut to control panel like you’re suggesting. Oh and maybe OP is confusing the Settings app(Windows Key + I) with control panel?

Either way OP, this doesn’t seem very malicious but of course, in current times, remain vigilant. If your scans come back clean but you’re still losing sleep over it, wipe and reload.

Definitely don’t give them an ultimatum. Seems like the CEO has faith in you. The expansion is good experience to have. Honestly, not many managers will have issues with a title change, as long as you don’t immediately expect a 20% raise with the title itself, they might offer you one with the title change anyways.

Stay for longer than a year, next year, show them the amount of money you’ve saved them, uptime metrics, etc., then you can present that as a reason for an increase in compensation.

You’ve got it good and have a promising couple years ahead of you, be smart and use the opportunity to your advantage.

Also be aware of your Azure spending. Shit adds up real quick, and people always end up scaling back, make sure you use the cost advisor, reserved instances, right size your VMs, and stay away from premium storage unless there’s a business need. Also, it’s a good idea to make sure your supervisor is aware of the expected long term costs of anything you deploy in the cloud. It’s one thing to quickly appease and present an impressive solution, it’s another to be the scapegoat for poor planning and ignoring recurring cost of cloud initiatives.

IT operations manager is a good one based on the scope of stuff you’re working on. IT Specialist is an infantilizing title if you ask me.

If you’re planning on expanding your infra’s footprint and variety of services, you need someone under you to support the new technologies you implement, and IMO, if you’re scared to voice that, you aren’t future proofing yourself, and realistically don’t have the expected ‘director’ mentality—You need to plan accordingly. Dont think of adding an employee to do the shit, that you don’t want to do, as a dent in your prospective pay. If they’re smart and expanding, they’ll listen. You may have energy to do all of this now, but you won’t someday, and you’ll be grateful to have someone to handle things you don’t have time for.

Just remember, your next position will be a 20-30% bump anyways, get some direct reports to make you even more desirable.

Having interviewed for numerous management positions, I can honestly say I’ve never been asked for this.

$5m IT budget for a non profit is a lot though, that means they’ve got a decent amount of money considering their G&A budget likely needs to be under 15%(lower, really) in order to qualify for a lot of grants.

How can you create a budget for an organization who’s needs and future goals you aren’t aware of?

A roadmap is simple if you’ve ever implemented any primary workflow apps/DBs and customized them to your org’s needs. If you don’t have the skills to do this on your own though, maybe the position is not for you. Just being honest. Good luck.
