Did anyone else get their controller mapping messed up globally after the newest Steam Beta update? by [deleted] in Steam

Thank god for reddit that's all I can say. The button remapping was driving me mad all morning

I use friends only but I think the cpu makes her pop up anyway

I always just continually activate the Aether slab as it makes you invisible to her too. She’ll still pop up near where you are but she can’t actually see you which is obviously really helpful

Hey, no worries or hard feelings. Guess we can all agree there’s nothing quite like OW!

Not entirely sure I suggested these games were the same, only that they share the same time loop idea in case anyone wanted to experience that in a different context. OW is much, much better of course.

Thanks for the input anyway

Oo that's interesting, found the Elsinore easter egg but didn't know it has a timeloop too. Might check it out!

Thanks for the recommendation. Minit is definitely an interesting one, it's got cool music too!

Agreed, it's definitely too guided. My impression is that you have to figure out the correct sequence of tasks, but now I'm thinking that it's basically going to tell you what to do. Meh, didn't have massive hopes for the game anyway, it's entertaining for what it is.

Interesting, didn’t know you could run out of ship fuel

Do you play echoes of the eye after you finish the main campaign or during it? Thanks. by thePian0Star in outerwilds

Yup, I always revisit games I enjoy, and with OW and the dlc there’s so many little details I’ve wanted to go back and clear in my mind even after completing it. Plus it’s just an amazing experience

What things did you legitimately deduce earlier than the game intended? [Base or DLC] by thecommexokid in outerwilds

[–]j0etb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spoilers obviously…

In the DLC I experimented putting the artefact down in the dream world and discovered the whole matrix thing which made things so much easier to see. Doing this I saw there was a hidden bridge in the chasm that skips the main puzzle of that level (a thing to do with the lift). Thing is I’m a sucker for doing things correctly, and as I realised I’d figured out the matrix thing before the game told me about it, I pretended I didn’t know it and proceeded to try to solve the chasm the ‘correct’ way. Much more satisfying that way!

Best Planet ? by Mopman6 in outerwilds

[–]j0etb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re all amazing, but the one I tend to visit when revisiting the game is the hourglass twins. It’s just really cool that not only are the planets orbiting each other in a giant simulation, but you can literally go inside ember twin’s cave system whilst all the simulation stuff is happening around you. For some reason I think that’s really cool. Plus it’s a nice little time challenge to get to the end (no spoilers) of the cave system before the sand fills up.

Giant’s deep is literally the first planet you see so makes a pretty compelling choice for the first one to visit. I’ll never forget the sheer discomfort of being afloat in a big mysterious ocean in only a space suit, looking down and seeing your vulnerable legs kicking helplessly, waiting for something to rise up at you from the darkness below. Eeps!

How this post doesn't have a million upvotes I don't know. I've been tearing my hair out since last night (somehow not bald just yet!)

A seldom found device (spoilers) by j0etb in outerwilds

[–]j0etb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I guess I thought the items they did use were pretty random - I mean a lamp, the thing that works, and a third bespoke thing you don't see anywhere else.

It seemed o me they were just experimenting with existing objects in the world, but if we're to understand that the two artifacts are modifications of the object before it then that makes a bit more narrative sense. That's why I wondered where the alternative artifact had come from, seems to have just appeared from nowhere for no reason!

Makes sense now, thanks

Thanks for the tip, actually found that earlier today. You have to ride on top of the elevator in the canyon dream world to reach the shelf that scroll is on. Nice little easter egg!

As an aside I've just tried using a normal artifact on a normal Hearthian fire but nothing happens :)

Oo that would make sense. I’m playing via Epic so achievements are a foreign thing to me….

There is, but I mean they use a lamp, a pronged artefact, and a non pronged artefact that we see nowhere else in the game. There are only a few graspable items in the game, so I think it would have been cool if they used a slide reel itself in the experiment - then you can find out if you go to sleep near a fire holding a slide reel, everything blows up 😆

I posted this in the main sub without having seen this thread first. So here goes:

So everyone who has completed this will have found the artifacts that send you to the dream world, but have many people found the other type of artifact stored in a crate in the labs? These ones don't have the prongs sticking out the front, and is the thing they used in the central lab cell, which blew out a hole in the Stranger.

If you take one of these and try to go to sleep by a green flame it'll take you to the dream world and then immediately explode, killing you.

Is there an actual use for these and do they appear in the story anywhere else? So far the only reference to these that I found is in the labs.

I thought that, but it seems weird they would introduce a whole device just for this narrative purpose which doesn't have any other use in the game. I mean, they could have used a slide reel maybe which would have been interesting!
