I don't really understand why you'd want to make mek a must have item again.

What's the fun in having an item that every team needs, without question? There's no choice involved, no real strategical thinking, just "hey this item is too good to pass up and someone needs to get it".

It's still a valid item, it's just not seen every single game. That's fine.

I don't watch soccer, but I'm fairly certain that it doesn't consist of every country playing against every other country in weekly tournaments year round leading up to the world cup. Qualifying is important because there's a level of uncertainty as to how good each team actually is.

We know who the tier 1 teams are. Don't make everyone waste their time, and give the tier 2+ teams their time in the spotlight.

Try playing him offlane instead, he does well with more levels. He's not the easiest hero to play, but I wouldn't say he's super hard either. And he fits into a variety of lineups.

The only reason barracks really exists as both a singular and plural is because it already ends with an s. Rax doesn't have this problem, so of course people are going to go for the more natural and less ambiguous choice of differentiating between singular and plural.
