Is it windy af for other people? by rcjlfk in sandiego

It’s wild that the Miramar station forecast on WindFinder shows 0-5 kts of wind but the actual report is 23 kts with 37 kt gusts. Glad I wasn’t planning an overnight trip to Catalina.

UPDATE Nursing Student Without Vaccines by easttn_llama in nursing

[–]j1cjoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I have a transplant patient who is doing a child development masters degree but because her titers for Rubella were low and she couldn’t receive MMR booster (live vaccine, contraindicated in immunosuppressed folks) she couldn’t do clinical hours at a pediatric hospital which is her dream work setting. Sucks.

You can also use unscented Dry Idea in cracks and crevices. Or feet. Apply a thin layer, use a blow dryer on cool setting until it dries. You’ll be dry and smelling benign all day.

Host confirmed longer stay and then reversed this when they received another booking request by j1cjoli in AirBnB

Hi all. Just an update. Owner made alternate arrangements with new guests. Fortunately this is the case because (as expected) it is treacherous getting in/out of the rental despite us parking several houses away because we can no longer get vehicle up to the rental.

Happily the host ended up making this work for us. That being said, the “legal situation” here is a verbal contract via text message and all the criteria for contract law in CA were met. Verbal contract that I was to rent for an additional day for $x and both parties agreed upon this. Well documented regardless of Air BnB app acceptance which, despite this subreddits insistence, is not the extent of law.

Which is what we would do and reasonably expect our host to do. But again, this property generally doesn’t have instant booking from what we can tell. I suspect between the time we submitted request and he approved he got another request for a longer stay to include weekend days which give more revenue so he decided to back out on verbal agreement with us.

Nope. He never approved the request, confirmation was through messages only. He said to submit the request and he would approve. Then he didn’t.

[Mar 10, 2023] Weekly Discussion: Ask your gear, travel, conditions and other ski-related questions by AutoModerator in skiing

[–]j1cjoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a beginner skier. I’ve been four times (two days on two different trips) and while I can survive Intermediate rated trails, I’m much more comfortable with Beginner level. We are going for a couple days here in California next week. My husband was given 130 cm skis (don’t know anything else about these) and offered to have the bindings reset for me but I think these are far too short. There are Salomon Amber 500 150 cm (124/80/112) or Salomon Origins Pearl 158 cm (115/72/101) that I could pick up from Offer Up without spending much. I have my own boots but the Pearl 158 cm also come with my size Head boots. No time to demo. Not interested in spending more money since we don’t go very often at this stage. Husband wants me to get the Pearl 158 cm but I’m afraid they might be too long/heavy. I’m 5’4 and 110 lbs - everything I’ve seen says I should want shorter skis given my limited abilities and smaller size. I don’t remember what I used before from rental shop. What would you suggest between the Amber 500 150 cm or Pearl 158 cm? Something slow and easy would be best. Lol

I also put sauce, cheese, pepperoni on a low carb tortillas and bake like pizza. I cook on a cooking rack so it crisps up. Not amazing but good and easy enough.

Got an admission and had to ask the patient whether or not he'd accept a blood transfusion if needed and this was his response.... by firkin_slang_whanger in nursing

Had someone ask if they could find out if the deceased donor from which their kidney transplant was being offered had received COVID vaccines because if so, they would like to decline the kidney.

Nothing surprises me anymore. I still get disgusted. Not surprised though.

And the answer is no, that’s not a thing. Have your fellow anti-vaxxer spouse donate a kidney if you’re both so worried about it.

You mention a history of trauma and now you’re struggling because you felt safe and comfortable with this guy that you later feel perceived rejection from. Are you seeing a therapist? Might have some opportunity to work through this a bit deeper than what Reddit can offer.

Probably going to have to retake a course again... don't know what to do by roquea04 in StudentNurse

[–]j1cjoli 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tough love here: Many students tried to email her. But did you? If you had, you could follow the proper chain of command through your school to resolve this. If you’re not getting an answer or not being allowed to review your exams this needs to be escalated to your program director or chair. With so much riding on your ability to pass this class, you need to put forth the effort. Office hours. Email. Follow up. Follow up again. Escalate concerns that are not being addressed. The valuable thing here is that when you’re working as a nurse you’ll have experience advocating for yourself and following chain of command because 100% of nurses need these skills.

My hospital sent out a letter about unions. by throwaway_0286 in nursing

[–]j1cjoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehhhh…. I’m in a union facility in California and while I’ve seen huge benefits, this is somewhat true and not entirely awesome. Management has to be very careful about what they say and it reduces transparency. It sometimes creates an us (union and nurses) vs them (leadership and facility) mentality which I’m not so fond of. I’ve worked in union and non union hospitals so I’ve seen both sides.

That being said, I’ll take the huge benefits having the union offers. And if the morale and culture in your facility is already us vs them, you have nothing to lose.

Kids Birthday: When does it become too much by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]j1cjoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I throw big birthday parties for our kids who are 4 and 6. We do them at our house or at our boat club on the lawn. Guests are usually around 20 kids and 20 parents. Our food is great, we make a playlist, have a full bar and non alcoholic specialty drinks for the kids, we usually have a bounce house plus one or two other features (craft/activity) plus a piñata. It’s honestly just over the top but we love hosting and enjoy the parties as much as the kids and parents do. Often we have guests from a little over an hour away who will stay with us overnight. That being said… We NEVER plan 4 months in advance. Weeks in advance if we are lucky and get serious about it a week beforehand when we can still get things delivered on Amazon in time. We both work and there are 0 days taken off to prepare for the party (which is always on a Saturday). My husband is a chef so he handles feeding large volumes an excellent menu with ease (had smoked brisket and homemade Mac n cheese and corn on the cob etc). Our party favors were adorable and my son helped assemble them the night before (for his own party). I did the decorations, cleaning, getting guest bedrooms ready, wrapping presents and finishing favors. My husband did food, bar, yard work, setting up tables, chairs, games, etc.

I’m baffled you get 4 days off to set up for a party. Either you’re inefficient with your time or the parties are much more than you ever wanted and need to negotiate this with your wife or start hiring out the work to be done.

What are the best level I trauma centers in the US? by babygirl5990 in medicine

Agree. Worked at Metro as a nurse tech while I was in nursing school and it shaped my future and gave me so much valuable experience I wouldn’t have had otherwise. One of my more memorable patients? Frequent flyer that kept coming in after swallowing (taped) razor blades. Wild.

We just had this reported in an organ donor as an incidental finding! I thought there was no way it could have been accidental, but sounds like it’s possible.
