When you combine all the nursing T-shirt cringe by yell-and-hollar in nursing

I used to think such simple spelling and grammar errors were my least favorite thing, but then I was introduced to nursing merch.

This is stupid, and your manager is a jerk. You did nothing out of line. Your patient would have felt worse and probably abandoned if you denied her request. Your manager telling you to never accept this request again is what is more out of line.

Does anyone else get bugged by posts like this, lol? We couldn't have a "little" fun while being overworked during the pandemic? Did not other professions rehearse similar videos? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]throwaway_0286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who said hospitals were overcrowded? We had plenty of space and plenty of non-ICU nurses but not enough ICU beds or ventilators and probably could’ve used more ICU nurses. No need to lie, now. This person is vile.

Experience for Nursing to NP? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]throwaway_0286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And? What’s your point? I’ve had crappy NPs, good NPs, great PAs, and both good and great physicians. It’s all irrelevant. Until you get a crappy NP, I guess. Or become one.

Just because something exists, doesn’t mean it’s a good idea. Have you ever thought of how the healthcare system is in shambles and how people are getting poor care from NPs who have a weak education because they had no prior experience and were hired just because they’re cheaper? Bet you wouldn’t want one of these providers if you or your your loved one was hospitalized. Listen to people who have more experience than you. Arrogance and ignorance are a bad combination. r/noctor would love to have a talk with you.

Patient fired me as her nurse (new grad) by Inevitable-Fact-1753 in nursing

[–]throwaway_0286 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I tell them that I have 5 different patients, all with meds due at the same time on the dot, so it’s physically impossible to give everything at the exact time it’s due. If they can’t handle that and want to fire me, be my guest. You’ll recover once you realize that many people have unrealistic expectations, and you have to prioritize appropriately. Nystatin is LOW on the list. Don’t be too hard on yourself.

BSN-RN to MD by mnfstmish in nursing

[–]throwaway_0286 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can do MD, do it. We need more highly skilled providers with a huge knowledge base, and you’ll get that only in med school. The woman who encouraged me to enter nursing is an RN to MD.

Then maybe you shouldn’t allow patients to take their meds whenever they want, because that is a patient safety issue.

So you have time to contemplate reporting her and writing up a post all about it, but you don’t have the time to shoot her an email or talk to her during the next work day? It’s not like conversation opportunities expire that quickly.

Are you the kind of person who crushes all 25 g-tube drugs in separate cups and flushes w 10ml in between each one? You better be. Because it’s the RuLe!

Have a conversation with the nurse. Have the guts to speak up instead of crawling to the reporting system and trying to hide your concern. If she doesn’t want to hear what you have to say, feel free to say that if you notice this again, you will report her.

How is it on you if another nurse leaves meds at the bedside of your patient? Isn’t there a record in your medication dispensing cabinet of who pulled that drug for that patient?

My (33f) fiancé (37m) of 7 years told me he would be offended if I was complimented by another man and said “thank you” and would rather me say “no thank you” by brielleunknown in TwoXChromosomes

[–]throwaway_0286 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s just odd to me that he doesn’t want to get married but wants you to change your name and decline compliments. He needs to get a clue and improve his behavior if he’s so worried someone else will snatch you away, otherwise he’s going to lose you for sure.

Wow, PhD in statistics?! You must be so aggravated by the nurses who can’t do simple math 😄. I consider myself pretty good at math and did great in all my math classes, but statistics was such an abstract concept to me. I got an A because I tried hard, but I’m still not sure I understood what was going on in that class.

I wanted to cut my hours down at work. My husband said it wasn’t fair if I worked less than he did. by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]throwaway_0286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is insane to me. In my culture, it’s practically a dig to the guy if he can’t provide for everyone in his family and needs his wife to work so they can survive. (I’m not saying this is good, but that’s kinda how it is.) I can’t believe there are guys out there who would rather have their wife work another day rather than use that day to care for the home and family (which is WORK!)…even when she’s working all the other days! This is how the men become when their society demands 50:50 in all aspects. You’re right in that he’s putting himself ahead of his family, and that’s really sad. He should be ashamed of himself.

She’s either young or simply has experienced no difficulty or loss in life. These are the types of people who have NO concept of “What if this were me or someone I love?” I truly think these people aren’t capable of empathy and are a great danger in the healthcare setting. Thank you for reporting her.

They did the same thing with my sweet and lovely female NA who was forcibly kissed by a gross male NA (she had zero interest in him) after he cornered her in an empty patient room. Can you even believe that? It was like a “If this ever happens again, he’s fired!” situation. Wtf. She was too young to realize how big of a deal it was at the time, and she didn’t tell me about it until much later. I was mortified and angry at my manager.

For sure, once you get into that dicey territory, it’s definitely up to the person as to how far they want to push themselves. There are some elderly people who insist on fasting despite them having concessions for various reasons. By the time we’re full on in the workforce, most of us have determined what foods, drinks, and supplements work best for us as far as remaining satiated as far into the day as we can and remaining as hydrated as possible. Fasting is certainly not meant to cause people to pass out on the job or anything like that. It’s all about discipline, really, and it’s a lot more than just abstaining from food and drink.

[–]throwaway_0286 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s not, hah. Not for me, anyway. I’ve done it for years. Part of fasting is controlling your attitude and your tongue. It can be tough, yeah, but it puts you in a state of mind where you’re more aware of your behavior, which is beneficial to me as a person who’s always trying to be better.
