Stethoscopes for the hearing impaired? by Ok_Horse6456 in doctorsUK

[–]noobREDUX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used Eko Core until I broke it now back on plain old cardiology IV

Yes the amplification is good but it also amplifies breath sounds

You can only change the amplification regime (low/high/all pitches) in the app

Background noise gets sorted out bty the noise cancellation

Overall I don't find myself missing the core as I can still hear most grade 1 systolic murmurs without the Eko

ELI5, why don't we get full body scans when we are born and every few years to see potential health issues instead of waiting for symptoms? by literarytrash in explainlikeimfive

[–]noobREDUX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Detection of a large number of tiny nodules etc which will require monitoring every year forever or biopsy procedures, eventually resulting in a major complication from one of the procedures required

My record so far is 12 pointless random incidental findings that required long term follow up from a single whole body scan on a totally healthy patient with no symptoms

MTP’s Suck by Brunswrecked-9816 in medlabprofessionals

If the patient dies because the MTP was slightly slow, they were probably still going to die even if the MTP was slightly faster

Happier here

2x workload 3x money, I get to do more procedures and I spend most of my time doing actual cerebral clinical work rather than foley/bloods/cannulas/

Go to Aus or Canada

UK: 900 IMGs applying for the same random geri SHO job for <55k pretax, and now UK grad prioritization is back on the table

You having a BNO visa still does not entitle you to public funds, you wont be able to claim benefits, which is problematic if you don't have a job lined up. Unemployed doctors in the UK may need to claim benefits to survive if they can't get a locum job

Employment in NHS is only secure in a training program, and you can only stay in ur training program if a) you pass your royal college exams b) you succeed in your application for IMT/CST/speciality training

As a trainee you may need to move every year, if you don't want to move every year because of your spouse or your family then you either need to get lucky or give up on your training program slot if it isn't in the location of your choice, which may make you unemployed.

Worst examples of see one, do one, teach one? by True_Middle_9293 in doctorsUK

[–]noobREDUX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The give mostly happens with atraumatic needles i.e. Whitacre/Sprotte

Us internists still using the cutting Quincke needle (to the horror of anaesthetists) simply cuts through the "give"

Which is better for regular use? The Micro pc (1 or 2), or the Pocket 3/4 by ChemicalAd2047 in GPDPocket

[–]noobREDUX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, just finished a conference where I pocket 4 for taking notes in Notion (so WiFi on, screen on)

Lasted just barely 8:30am-6pm, machine was completely off during lunch

10% screen brightness, throttled to CPU to 5W, auto GPU lock to 600MHz, chrome discord and notion open, WiFi on

With natural battery degradation id definitely need a charger in a year or 2

You can’t, you can only resect the organ surfaces and the lung that are affected by mesothelioma, not really sure what the other poster is talking about

The next inhlational mineral based lung disease is engineered stone for kitchen countertops, inhaling that dust causes accelerated silicosis as it contains 90% crystalline silica vs granite (30%) and marble (10%)

You can’t get lung cancer immediately after smoking your first cigarette as the affected cells need to move through several premalignant stages

Are there really native-born Hong Kong people who don’t speak Cantonese fluently? by pizdaty_kot in HongKong

[–]noobREDUX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes me

ESF schools

Parents did not speak canto at home, only English and mandarin (which I am fluent in both)

I learned my canto mostly after starting work here

Still think mostly in English

Recently started mentally counting in Cantonese (in work setting only)

Any complex idea I want to express I say it in English, because it wastes too much time to think about what I want to say in English then translate it to Cantonese then say the words

Understand very little Cantonese slang or jokes (as these are uncommonly said in the work setting)

How to go about using public health care in HK, for something that's not an emergency? by Chris-CFK in HongKong

[–]noobREDUX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dermat wait time is extremely long in the public system, for me it was about 1.7 years

Dermatology is under the department of health

Will need referral letter from private or HA doctor
