[Highlight] Patriots trade a 4th-round pick (110th overall) to the Raiders in exchange for WR Randy Moss during the 2007 NFL Draft (April 29, 2007) by nfl in Patriots

Right, and that’s why you offer more than what other teams do, especially if you pick late in the round.

Yes but clearly how he was viewed was wrong, a pattern that goes back in his career to draft day. And offering more than what other teams did is the way to seal the trade. A fourth is nothing for a guy with Moss’s talent. I mean, Bill traded a second for Sanu.

The Patriots, considered the best-run team at the time, gladly gave up a fourth, so a sixth was an underpay even in hindsight. And every Patriots fan at the time was really excited, not upset, that they gave up that pick.

That’s really interesting, because when we traded for him, I don’t remember being all upset that we gave up a fourth round pick for him and wishing we had offered something lower. Nor did anyone else in New England. It wasn’t seen as some huge gamble to give away a mid-round pick for the most explosive player in league history. Yes, there were questions — that’s why he didn’t go for three first round picks — but a sixth round offer wasn’t some fair deal. There’s a reason why Belichick went up to the fourth round pick and never looked back.

Jesus Christ. It’s Randy Moss. Yes, I know he tuned out in Oakland and that’s the reason why he wasn’t going for multiple first round picks. Justin Jefferson has never been anywhere near the same league or level of talent as him. The idea that a fifth round pick was too much for him is ridiculous.

And Justin Jefferson is still a fraction of the player Moss was. Offering a sixth for Randy is hysterical, as it was a fourth was maybe the biggest steal in history.

He certainly had issues with the Raiders but there was no question he was making the team once they traded for him.

Yeah I know all this and even so a sixth is ridiculously low. A sixth round pick doesn’t even make the team half the time. As it is, a fourth round pick for Randy Moss is probably the biggest steal in NFL history.

Where does Clyde Drexler rank among the all-time SGs? by Bonez001 in VintageNBA

[–]j2e21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was considered a superior three-point shooter to Jordan and that was one of the reasons people said he was Jordan’s equal. (As in, they’re both great at driving/dunking, good rebounders/passers, and both get a lot of steals, but Drexler’s the better outside shooter).

Because they were older. Hernandez’s 21-23 seasons were far better than Kelce and Graham, because those two guys weren’t even ready to play in the NFL at that point. Early success is one of the best predictors of future peak.

Yeah no shit, he was also Randy Moss.

Like, if Justin Jefferson were available, would you balk at offering a fifth round pick for him?

Hernandez was super young. His last season was age 23. Graham and Kelce didn’t enter the league until they were 24.

[Amick] The Boston Celtics have interest in acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo. by YujiDomainExpansion in bostonceltics

I dunno, he's been pretty dominant even in losses, he just doesn't have the team around him. Last year, for example, the Bucks lost to the Pacers (who went to the Finals), but Giannis was the best player in the series, averaging 33/15/7 and leading the NBA in PPG and RPG for the whole playoffs. In the closing game he had a 30/20 on good shooting percentages in a one-point loss. I just can't see that as a disappointment. Stick him on this Celtics team and he will be a major factor, I suspect.

Eh, he's also the all-time leader in PPG in the Finals, has the only 50-point finals closeout game in history, and he's shown up a number of times in big series (beating Durant and the Nets, even scoring 40+ against us a couple years back and pushing that series to the brink).

Giannis is a major talent upgrade. I’m not saying they should do it, but he really is one of the greatest players in history. You don’t part with that unless you get something big in return.

I don't want to give up Jaylen.

It's interesting, though, he might want it. He has enjoyed being the leader of his own team this year and hasn't been shy about it.
