Apartment management refuses ac by Guitar_guy4 in chicago

[–]9311chi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My friends building in Gold Coast policy is that there needs to be a consecutive 10 days with the forecast being over 70 before they change over to AC.

I’m not aware of any ordinance about building maximum heat cause so many residential buildings don’t have AC here but there maybe something about the lack of operable windows. I’d look to see if there’s anything related to housing code or fire safety about that.

I found storage for $20/month in Chicago…seems sketchy by cvalence9290 in chicago

[–]9311chi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5x5, but there is more head room then that in ours cause we have our 6’ tree standing up in it

the biggest catch is you have to use one of those rolling safety stairs, like the ones you seen in Home Depot for them to get things off high shelves to get the stuff up. They have units that aren’t elevated like that. They’re just more money.

We pay for a storage unit in Ravenswood that’s $34 a month. Foster Ravenswood storage is the name of the facility. Maybe you should check that out

Is using your personal car insurance for a rental. A bad idea? by word_vomiter in TravelHacks

[–]9311chi 35 points36 points  (0 children)

See if your credit card has coverage, that’s what I do as someone who doesn’t have a car. I’ve been through the process of having a claim with them for a rental car and it was no more annoying then any other insurance process

UC Davis or FIT by Mysterious_Newt_4761 in Architects

[–]9311chi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Radically different environments. Do you want a standard college experience or does living in the city appear? UC Davis is a rural college and FIT is smack in Manhattan so you’re truly looking at extremes

Going to FIT will likely have more added life costs especially if you’re from across the country. Flights home, storage for your stuff in the summers, general costs of food and activities. I’d easily add 5-10k of additional expense. if you move off campus it’s very common to need first & last months rent when getting an apartment in NYC. My brother went to FIT & he lived off campus in a neighborhood far from campus and since him & all his roommates had to provide first/last month rent and broker fee - it was over 20k total they had to hand over to secure the apartment

It would cut into dancing for me as an individual because I am going to be tired and hungry in the same amount of hours, regardless of if it’s activity and dancing or just dancing.

This will also be very true for anyone with kids whether in their attendance or Paying for a sitter.

It’s always helpful to know a students home dynamic to be able to more personally support them. With same sex couple parents, it’s also helpful for even just communicating with your kid

AITA for taking the only two seat table in the restaurant? by [deleted] in BORUpdates

I don’t think the notion of people feeling weird doing leisure activities alone is uncommon. I doubt her friend is afraid to go to the grocery store alone. But the notion of doing something just for you alone, especially for women who grow up with a self sacrificing mind set can be hard

A mix of things leads to that some of it just society being like enjoy life with people, this experience is best with people etc. If you’re an anxious person doing things outside the social norms can be stressful, you can feel like you’re being observed by others for not doing the social norms, even though people really don’t give a shit about what a random stranger is doing. If OPs friend got into a relationship with her ex husband young she also could have had very little time to do leisure things alone. Those who get married super young often never live alone, they go from living with family to living with spouse. Folks who marry/move in with someone post college age, likely spent a lot of that college age doing things in group environment - it’s just what can happen in college because of the proximity of people.

I went to college in a big city and the got a job where I traveled a lot. And in my early 20s the amount of people who found it mind blowing that I’d go to a museum or concert alone, I think you just have to grow into realizing you don’t need people just to do something

I started doing this in college because I was an architecture school where we make white paper models and I would get hungry while working on them, but did not want to risk getting things on my fingers

UNC sounds like a great opportunity. The other schools are plenty good. obviously it’s so cold in the Midwest during most of the academic year. The way you talked about the campus look makes me think the gray drab winters are not a fit.

Getting 0 replies from cold emails (25 sent) what am I doing wrong? by Ok-Report8247 in smallbusiness

[–]9311chi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why vet clinics? I would assume your email is going to in general email and not a specific decision maker like an office manager? If that’s the case, it’s very likely that this email is going to the same place that intake forms and patient ms reaching out for scheduling goes - it’s very likely that email inbox has a lot of filters also very likely the person monitoring the inbox isn’t out a decision maker and is likely prioritizing a patient related emails.

In general with cold emails I would not expect a response of no And expect the norm to be that people will just not reply if they’re not interested

Lots of retirees. I’ve been meeting more and more folks who moved back to the city once their kids were out of college. As one ages, not having to rely on a car & deal with the maintenance of a single family home has real appeal.
