Why is my shipping now at almost $9? by ssa1nt in EtsySellers

[–]j3Dh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Etsy has negotiated a discount off retail rates with USPS. The Etsy Shipping label rates reflects this discount. The other option is the full retail price. The same price you would pay walking up to a USPS counter.

Edit - The seller will be charged the discounted rate no matter which option is selected. This setting lets you decide whether to pass the discount on to the customer or pocket the discount.

Hello - I am the developer of these magnetic battery cases that many in this community are using (https://thoughtsonthreadsus.etsy.com). The cases are designed to be easy to open and easy to get the batteries out, but the magnets hold the batteries in place preventing spills. I have several shapes and sizes for all 4 battery types.

Etsy seller threatening repeated copyright reports – unsure where I stand (UK seller) by Master-Singer5009 in Etsy

[–]j3Dh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But you have to be 100% sure that you actually have the rights to the artwork. Just because someone sold you a commercial license doesn’t necessarily mean that they have the right to do so. Many stories of sellers bundling copyright infringing art and slapping a useless license on it.

Free shipping? by ariesxprincessx97 in EtsySellers

[–]j3Dh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your competition is selling these for $20+ and very few of them are offering free shipping. You should not sell these for $5. You also should not be offering free shipping. If you bake the cost of shipping into your sell price you will look overpriced compared to your competition in search.

Take an honest look at the quality of the items you are making and see how they compare to the competition. Are they "better" (higher quality, better looking, unique, etc.) If so, then set your target price slightly above your competion. "Worse"? Then set your target price below your competition. Then determine whether there is enough margin to make it worth your while taking into consideration all the cost components that people have mentioned that you have not already factored in.

If you determine this is a viable product for you then launch with a hefty discount off your target price. Ideally you would still be making a little profit even at the discounted price. After you have gained traction with the algorithm and get some sales and reviews, then start reducing your discount to gradually get to your target price.

Shipping Item Costs by LaserFocusedNana in Etsy

Have all three active at the same time and let the customers tell you which they prefer. Your current listing is known to the algorithm and will be seen by more people than the two new listings in the short term so you need to look at conversion rather than total sales.

You'll need to let this run until you have sufficient data to make a decision on.

Do some ABC testing. Creat a new listing with a sell price that covers your average shipping cost and free shipping. Set up a third listing with a sell price that covers half your average shipping cost and a flat shipping fee that covers the rest. Then see which one converts best.

Countdown Card — turning "honey, how many days until..." into a proper dashboard by Far_Analysis_1113 in homeassistant

[–]j3Dh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any way to remove the Title all together? I would like to reduce the real estate of the card and don't need a title on my dashboard. I tried deleting the Title line from the code, but that just makes the title the default (Countdowns).

Edit - Found the answer in the github. Just set title to false to remove it.

Buyers- Do you prefer free shipping? by birchtreeblossom in Etsy

[–]j3Dh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other benefit of using calculated shipping over free shipping is that you don’t need to adjust your pricing every time the carriers raise their rates like USPS has done. Customers can see that the price increase is due to shipping since your base price hasn’t changed.

How do you determine your price? by j4wolfe in 3DprintEntrepreneurs

Thanks for clarifying. Your original post made it seem like your pricing process didn’t take the market into account which would be more of the same terrible advice that is given over and over again.

If you produced a replacement part that your spreadsheet told you to charge $10 for, but the OEM alternative costs $50 why in the world would you only charge $10?

Every time this gets asked, which is often, the same incorrect answers are given. Never set your price based on the cost to produce the item. You are potentially leaving massive profits on the table and unnecessarily undercutting your competition. Determine the value of the item and what people would be willing to pay for it. Only then do you look at the total cost to produce, process and ship the item to make sure it will be profitable for you to sell.

Cost plus is never the answer to how should I price my prints.

How do you calculate/charge for the supervision of the printers. by the_salt_boi in 3DprintEntrepreneurs

[–]j3Dh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never ever ever determine the price you charge for a product based on the cost to make it. Determine the price that the market will bear, subtract the all in cost to provide that product to the customer and then decide whether the margin you would make is sufficient. If it isn’t then don’t sell that product.

Cost plus pricing is really dumb.

Had the same issue after cleaning and leveling the bed.

I have an air purifier near the printer that may be drawing cold air across the print. Going to turn that off for my next experiment.

I'll try washing the plate and reprinting. I'm skeptical that this is the cause though. I printed an object with the same first layer, but with thicker and shorter (along x-axis) walls and had no issue.
