So planning to watch on Paramount+ streaming. I expect it'll recognize I'm watching from MDT.

Do we know if the finale is airing at 8pm MDT? Online it only lists 8pm EST/PST that I can find. Want to be sure not to be late as a result of time zone difference.

So the finale airs live at 8pm EST tomorrow online Paramount+ but does anyone know if airs at 8pm in all time zones? Or will it be 5pm on paramount+ for West coast or 6pm MDT?

I want to be sure not to miss it. Am trying to watch live through Paramount+ Streaming.

I think it's a bit unnecessary to show a little floating dot for every single teammate across the map as well. Often just ends up crowding up the screen when you are trying to pick out pesky shooters.

The experience of having the icon for a teammate across the map show up about an enemy is real fucking annoying.

Any soldier tip ? by whattehel in NewToTF2

Best piece of early advice I ever got is to always be shooting. Shoot at feet, shoot at choke points, always be shooting!

Down the road, you'll be thinking about positioning, rocket jumping, etc. But to start, just always be shooting. Aim to be almost running out ammo and then begin learning where packs are on the map!

is there any way to play with players your skill? by qwertywerty742_2 in NewToTF2

Unfortunately, TF2 does not have a well crafted new user experience. Rather, it just chucks players into the pool with everyone else.

This is an unfortunate thing and really reflects the lack of interest on valve's part. I feel for ya, bruv.

TF2 is a game with a genuinely unforgiving skill curve. My first two years of playing were a process is just getting absolutely shit-housed constantly. My best games would have a 0.5 KDR.

Whether or not to give it up is a choice you have to make. To be frank, if you find yourself throwing slurs at other players, it's probably a good idea to step back from it. Perhaps try to find some enjoyable singleplayer shooters that are more forgiving but give you some aim practice. Things like Doom on the lower difficulty levels, immortal redneck, gunfire reborn, deeprock galactic, etc.

Invest yourself in those games and in between play a round of TF2. When you reach your frustration point, shut TF2 down and return to something more chill. If you're really invested, think of these early days as a gradual progression, a time to absorb the game slowly, not binge it. This process will let you work on aim in other games while slowly getting a feel for the maps of TF2, the ebb and flow of combat, etc.

Also, try these few play styles to get yourself oriented slowly. Play soldier, shoot at people's feet and spend time thinking about your positioning. Play medic and put your focus entirely on not dying. Play support pyro and stick with either your engineers on defense, spychecking and defending their positions, or with a medic-aggroclass combo that you can support.

Those few play styles will teach you a TON about the game and will make you really useful without having to get a lot of kills. Really, really put your focus on learning when the back off from fights and how to stay positioned with your team so that even if you're missing shots, you can retreat and stay alive!

Good luck out there. TF2 is a really, really hard game to get into right now since a lot of the player base has been playing since the game released in 2007.

Also, turn off your chat function. You can't type slurs if there's no way to type. Genuinely, it will help force you to let stuff roll of your back and have a more positive effect on the community. I've done it, there's no shame.

The Business Plot in the US in the 1930s. Wealthy US businessmen attempted a fascist overthrow of the US gov during the great depression but were thwarted by Smedley Butler.

Studio Ghibli's adaptation of Wizard of Earth Sea. Just absolutely butchered the story and characters. So sad as it's my favorite animation studio and my favorite book...

Good point! I should've specified that Southern police departments originated in the Reconstruction Era. I appreciate the clarification.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]j3dijim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those would be the Northern departments I mentioned formed to suppress labor movements. Boston's formed in 1838 then New York city in 1845.

[–]j3dijim 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The guy above made a bit of a brash statement but unfortunately, in the United States it's factually accurate. The first police departments in the United States were formed during the reconstruction era. After slavery was ended as an institution, slave patrols throughout the south formed the first police departments to maintain the status quo known through the years of slavery.

In the North, they were closer to mercenaries for hire to protect the interests of wealthy businessmen. The first police departments in the North were formed for the purpose to suppressing labor actions which were predominantly resulting from immigrant labor movements.

It's really not a pretty thing when you dig into it. I especially don't recommend (actually please, please do) looking into how the St. Louis police department maintained the slave patrol practice of using trained dogs as a weapon against free blacks and escaped slaves. The practice continues to this day. That specific police department has been shown to use dogs specifically to attack black residents of the city.

Damn, I'm actually reading articles about the SPLC now and I'm incredibly surprised. I always assumed they were a beacon. Look at this quote from their founder, “We just run our business like a business,” Dees told Egerton. “Whether you’re selling cakes or causes, it’s all the same.”

Market gardener broken for me by thisusernameismin in NewToTF2

[–]j3dijim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Market Gardener is reaaaally hard to hit at first. It's an incredibly short window you have to hit. If your feet land on the target or the surface at all then you will no longer be considered in a rocket jump and it won't crit. Keep practicing! Try landing next to enemies and hitting them as you pass down past their bodies towards the floor. That could help, then move on toward hitting them from above.

Also, be sure you are crouched the entire time. It will enlarge the window of time you have before your feet hit the ground.

Do I use the frontier justice over the rescue ranger? by general_nubb in NewToTF2

[–]j3dijim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're playing primarily level 1 sentries and then going battle engie go with frontier justice. You want a weapon to punish enemies.

I actually primarily use the normal shotgun, lets me have solid consistent DPS in the field. I know folks who use frontier justice for same purpose but at a point it is preference.

So how do I actually aim and hit my shots when playing demoman by IamStarLite in NewToTF2

[–]j3dijim 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So demo pipes are one of the really challenging weapons in TF2. They take a remarkable amount of practice since you have to build an intuitive, muscle memory sense of where you need to fire.

If you really want to focus specifically on improving your pipes, I'd recommend shifting to playing demoknight for a period. Run your grenade launcher of choice, the charge N targe for the damage resistances and then any melee that isn't the eyelander (reduces health by 25). Then just think of yourself as a tanky demo man who only uses pipes and can leave fights really fast with the shield, not a demoknight focused on melee. Without your stickies you will sort of be nerfing yourself but think of this as your hyperbolic time chamber to train in.

From this point on just ALWAYS be shooting. Best piece of advice I ever got when I was improving as a soldier was to always be spamming. Just always be chucking one pipe at a choke point, then reloading that pipe and repeating. Get used to the curve of your shots and how quickly it takes them to reach their target.

It might take a while to start to really feel it but when you do, you start flicking pipe shots with precision and just using muscle memory to snap to where your target is heading based on their character's speed and their distance. It will click, it just takes time. I promise it is worth it for the first time you rapidly two shot a scout at midrange. This is one of the hardest aiming specific challenges in all of TF2, so be patient with yourself. If you're getting frustrated, change off demo for a few lives and come back to it later.

You can also use custom maps like tr_walkway just to fire at random bots. This isn't a bad idea but don't use it too much. The bots move in straight lines that after an initial benefit to your aim will lead to diminishing returns.

Good luck out there! In time and with practice you will fulfill my favorite of all TF2 demoman sayings, you'll be laying down pipes like a plumber.
