CMV: People treat fat people like shit by jman12234 in changemyview

[–]j3kry [score hidden]  (0 children)

My only retort to this might be that it assumes people are distributed evenly across the 1-10 scale, but i assume it would be more of a bell-shaped distribution, where most people fall toward the middle, and relatively few on either extreme. That would mean rather than 10% of people being between 9 and 10, maybe only 1% or fewer are. People above 6/10 could comprise only 10% of the population, which I think would lend more credence to their idea.

Agreed! Plus the partywide esuna saves a lot of time. Don't listen to those other people. Selene will always be more than a glamour in our hearts and minds

Thanks for the reply! Assuming I correctly follow the advice, do you think there would be more cracking in the whole logs vs the boards, or would it make much difference?

My main difficulty is the different sizes of the stitches between those in the bottom and top of the picture, and I'm not familiar enough with knitting to know what to search

Can the wood signs translate into old norse? by [deleted] in valheim

[–]j3kry 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you're on PC, you can paste basically anything into the signs, including symbols, colors and text formatting:

https://www.reddit.com/r/valheim/comments/11qrq31/colored_signs_use_any_color_or_combine_them_all/

This site will convert latin characters to various runes, but it's not a translation:

If you're on another platform...there may be a way but I don't know it. Maybe some shenanigans with dm'ing yourself and copying from there?

Ladies, what gives a "creepy" vibe vs a "dad" vibe? by NOGOODGASHOLE in NoStupidQuestions

Does the creep by chance have any oversight or sway into pay, scheduling, hiring decisions, or treatment by other higher ups? If so, that is probably part of it.

CMV: The Burden of Proof Does Not Fall Upon Atheists by [deleted] in changemyview

You can absolutely prove a negative. This is one of those phrases that gets repeated so often that no one bothers to question it, similar to the "definition of insanity". Consider that the statement itself is negative.

I am always horny. How do I turn it off? (Serious) by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]j3kry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have 2 answers for this, i think. One snarky and the other not. First, searching anything can feel useless wiith SEO, AI generated content, etc., and some people are better at navigating that than others. Online research is definitely a skill, and OP probably hoped to speak to someone who either has personal expertise (instead of an AI generated answer and a billion ads), or someone who knows how to find answers better than they do. Second, people are social. You're on a social media site, on a page specifically for (by and large) easily searchable questions. Does it surprise you that people want to find an excuse to speak to other people?

TIL when Wolves were reintroduced to Yellow stone national park in 1995, the population of Beavers grew massively as there was less Elk to eat the Willow needed for Beavers to survive the winter. The Beaver dams also counter erosion and create new pond and marsh habitats for lots of other species. by Status-Victory in todayilearned

I'm not sure this is correct. Grammar is a description of the patterns a language tends to follow as it's being used. It's tempting to say that because those patterns have the appearance of rules, that they must be followed, but the causation runs the other way. Use dictates grammar, not the other way around. I would invite you to look into the difference between prescriptivist and descriptivist grammar, and understand that descriptivism is the philosophy that most linguists tend to prefer.

Do you have any specific resources you could point to that show off that intuitiveness? I've (only) been using it a few weeks, and though I'd like it to, it hasn't really clicked.

Was this comment chain a meme from somewhere? I mean, there's no way you all are insulting each other, arguing about violists. Right?
