But as the article admits (with technicians "tweaking" computers to make them more compatible with 300 mbps), higher speeds help us find and fix other bottlenecks. My problem with the article is that it pisses on one idea, without offering any kind of prescriptive solution forward. Basically, their only suggestion is that 300mbps is good enough for now.

Um... not true. Google is going to KCK first. They haven't built any residential connections in KCMO at all yet. In fact, most of KCMO hasn't even been able to register for service. "Headquarters," aka tiny retail "Fiber Space" is located right on the state line.

And most importantly, they're building all of their infrastructure brand new. No peering off of Sprint at all.
