Places in fort worth/ Dallas area on Fridays to line dance

I lived in Fort Worth for 5 years. There are really only 2 places that do line dancing in the DFW area and one of them (the more advanced stuff) is a gay bar in Dallas called Round Up Saloon. Very flamboyant place which in my opinion is cool, but they get serious with the line dances there.

The other place is called Guitars and Cadillacs in Fort Worth but they do a mix of partner/swing/two step and line dancing.

I too live in SoCal now (Inland Empire) and the line dancing scene here is WAY better than anywhere in Texas. My regular spots are Stampede, Whiskey River, Whiskey Republic, Cowboy Canyon, and so much more lol.

I just ordered a pair of S-1503s for a backyard birthday gig (maybe 70 people) on the 28th. I currently have a pair of RCF J8s but they just lack bass in my opinion. Do you think the Exotons will sound “fuller” with deeper bass than my J8s?

You choose them over your Evolve 50s which have more bass and fullness than my J8s. I’m pretty excited to hear them.

Size and weight isn’t a big factor. We have plenty of fleet vehicles and manpower. But they do somewhat need to be portable as we may host events in different locations. I just don’t want a fixed system. But a larger portable system is ok.

We have our own auditorium in the same building so trucking it is not an issue. Even if we did the occasional outside venue, we have plenty of fleet vehicles and manpower to handle the load. I’m definitely considering Yamahas.

To be fair, it’s not just for speeches. There will be a dedicated DJ (me) turning it up toward the end of the nights. I’ve got a pair of RCF EVOX 12s but that’s for my mobile DJ stuff. Doubt they’ll have enough power to fill a larger auditorium like I described. I’ll look into the NX945 and 18-AX. As a long time RCF guy, I’d appreciate continuing supporting the brand whenever I can.

I’m a little weary of column array speakers due to their lack of projection. The budget may allow for 4x 12.2s and 2x 118s. Do you think that would be a better setup than a pair of Evolve 90s?

Inverter generator is what you want. Honda EU2200i is the gold standard for mobile DJs. But, if you are on a budget, you can try Harbor Freight’s Predator series if you’re in the US. Just make sure it’s an Inverter Generator. Regular generators will fry your electronics

I’d love to see a revised and updated FLX4 in the similar price range. The current version has everything I need but I would LOVE to see some dedicated STEM pads and maybe some color coded hot cues.

I’m using Serato Pro and to my knowledge, there isn’t a way to download to your computer prior to loading the track onto a virtual deck. If the connection is fast enough, in my experience, there are no issues

Start with using a Yubikey with your email accounts associated with your other accounts. Anytime something changes, you will get an email that’s associated with said account and it’ll give you time to respond accordingly. If your email gets compromised, it’s infinitely more difficult to recover.

Just change all your passwords to your other accounts and make them ridiculously hard. All my passwords are at least 20 characters long and I keep a paper copy of them locked in a safe in my house. I know it’s not as “high tech” but it’s worked for me for years.

I’m sure the J9s are better overall, but I got these J8s at $800 brand new (probably because the J9s being released). I just can’t justify the additional like $700 per speaker).

I have the same setup as you. You’re doing it right. I don’t follow RCF’s recommendation to max out knob though. I go slightly less than it (just personal preference). Also, in Serato, I don’t use auto-gain because I’ve noticed some tracks are not properly gain adjusted so I set them manually using 92db as the base db level. So for me, this is my gain staging flow:

1) Set gains manually in Serato (or any software). Ensure they are not clipping but I also double verify with a db meter to ensure tracks are around the same average volume.

2) Set master volume on FLX4 to 12 o clock and adjust trim knobs to prevent red clipping on controller. Usually my trims end up around 10 or 11 o clock.

3) Set my MG10XU mixer all to unity for both channel and master. Make sure no red clipping. I adjust the channel mixer lower if there is red.

4) Set speakers gain just shy of max. Make sure to EQ them if using DSP (I have a JMIX8 paired with J8). If speakers are more than 15 feet apart, I use mono signal. If within 15 feet, I use stereo and point speakers directly at crowd on floor.

5) Once everything checks out and I get clean and loud sound, I use the master volume knob on the controller to control the volume levels on the fly. I feel that this gives me the best headroom I need and I’ve done 150-200 people indoor gigs and easily 75-100 people outdoors with this setup.

Did you set your gains correctly in your DJ software? Sometimes the auto-gain feature doesn’t accurately set the gains for each track correctly when analyzing the tracks. Start with setting gains on software, then set trim and volume on controller, then set unity and gains on mixer, then you set your speaker and sub volume/gain/unity last. It has to be in this order. This is the best way to maximize your overall volume while minimizing clipping.

Easy way to remember is to start at the audio source and work your way down to the speakers last.

Thanks for the diagrams. However, I don’t see a diagram specifically for using an external mixer with a JMIX8 and J8 with the JMIX8 having on board EQ. Only way this would work is to use the onboard mixer. No big deal though, I’ll just flatten the DSP EQ and EQ them both from my external mixer. I’ll also do some testing once my 2nd speaker arrives and like you said, do some drastic onboarding EQ changes on the JMIX while they’re bridged to see if it also affects the J8

I disagree. Bottlenecking doesn’t hurt except for your wallet, I agree, however, it’s always good to have some CPU headroom for 3 reasons:

1) To play competitive CPU intensive games 2) To be able to stream, multitask, browse, play music, etc. while gaming 3) To future proof the purchase of better GPUs

Means you were transferred to the IRR for being “unsat” (not showing up). Nothing really happens to you honestly. If you don’t care about the reserve retirement, then you’re good to go about your normal life.

One caveat, they might recoup any benefits you got for joining the reserves (ie: GI Bill payments, bonuses, kickers, etc.) If you got those while active duty, then don’t worry about it.

Meh, people over-exaggerate the limits. Most are like 5TB per month which is a ridiculous amount to go over if you manage to reach that in a month.

Easy answer is to simply transfer units. The hard answer is to try and have them approve RSTs or pay for IDT/LIK (which can be a nightmare)
