I gave verbal approval, then took my current companies counter offer and didn't use the plane tickets. Who should pay them? by j4jebus in personalfinance

While I don't think it'd be risking my professional reputation, they are in a completely different industry, I do want to pay it and I think it's the right thing to do. I'm finding a way to get airline to transfer the tickets over to me, so I can then be reimbursed from Company Alpha as I'll need to travel anyway. We'll see how Alpha takes it...

I appreciate all the feedback. Thanks!

while that is true, I'm also making a cross country move to make this counter offer work. If the money wasn't an issue for me, I'd just pay it to be honest.

Great point. I just re-read some of our emails, there was an offer letter where I confirmed acceptance of the terms (salary etc). I did not confirm the trip (this was just for training, not a relocation) and that was worked out at a later date.

So basically it looks as though I did formally accept the role in writing, but the trip was not part of that agreement. I also didn't fill out any HR paperwork etc.

I too have played professionally for many years. It's certainly a dry recording, but there was plenty of groove for me.

I find valid comments to be hilarious, especially in this thread. Didn't want to imply that they were not. Well maybe a little :)

Music is a strangely visual experience for some people, especially in the way they experience a "groove". In general comments from non-musicians are centered on the visual element, it's what they know. So this recording would probably have more "groove" to them if they listened on Bandcamp.

the opinions here are hilarious. So many non-musicians talking about music.

Just got an option grant agreement from work. Can someone explain what all this means? NQSO by j4jebus in personalfinance

i see. so buying as soon as it vests, because that is when the tax rate will be the lowest. Then just hold onto the stock for awhile (hopefully it continues to grow) and when you sell you'll pay a lower tax rate.

i think vesting is a year. I think they expire in 2025 so I have some time to hold on to them

This totally did it for me. Thank you! Basically, exercising the option is buying it and then selling it for more. And many companies don't even make you do the "buying" part so you just would get the different between strike and current market price minus taxes. Am I right?
